[Disclaimer: my company sells Documentum to SharePoint migration services.] @Lopataru, very insightful comment. Microsoft and 3rd party vendors have additional components that plug into SharePoint that help fill in the other check boxes on the post, and make for a more level comparison. This post also neatly ignores the question of cost except from the perspective of an organization that already owns Documentum. In this case there is always additional cost associated with migrating the data from one platform to another, not to mention the added cost of integrating and operating multiple systems concurrently. For organizations that own neither SharePoint nor Documentum, the question of cost would be substantially different in favor of SharePoint. What we see with our customers is that they are looking to do a full migration (usually for cost considerations), but staggered over a period of 12-24 month. Rather than doing a full content migration, we advocate migrating only active content into SharePoint while retaining access to Documentum content through SharePoint, as you discussed in your Hybrid approach. However, the intent behind our approach is not to run a dual environment indefinitely, but rather to gradually quiesce and decommission the Documentum environment as the content left there becomes more and more stale, which usually takes 12-24 months. The advantages to this gradual migration approach include: * Much lower migration costs than a full migration as only a portion of the total data is migrated * Finite rather than indefinite costs associates with operating two systems on two different technology stacks * Additional cost savings through eventual simplification of IT infrastructure * Customer has time to gradually revise business process with new technology -Eugene
