living in France
Commenting on life, looking on the bright side and aiming to turn 40 in style, well, my style anyway.
Interests: I blog on what tickles me, I love to laugh and I’m curious about everything. I have some big plans for this year and I’m looking for tips & hints on how to turn 40 in style-my style. Interests include what makes us tick, books, running (marathon training), education, etc. Living life on the edge (of a country, a decade, the sofa?) I want to live life to the full.

The dumbest thing I've ever done
Yesterday I did something so incredibly dumb I have to share it with you. I drove a couple of hours away to run the Lausanne 20km race, it goes up and down around Lausanne old town, it was raining too. That's dumb I agree but it got worse, much worse.... Continue reading

Instant solution to be more efficient
As you probably know if a) you have met me, b) you’ve taken a look at this blog ( and especially the gaps between posts) I don’t have oodles of free time when I lay around, peeling grapes, thinking “ what can I do now?” I also suffer from an... Continue reading

How are your New Year's resolutions going?
(source) Resolutions? What resolutions? What New year come to think about it. I've slipped back into real life so quickly that it's hard to think that this time last month I was a week away from work, whichever way you were looking. So, while sparing a thought for how all... Continue reading

How much do you weigh?
(source) I was reading an article in today's Guardian (this is officially a VLW - very lazy weekend, so you'll have to find the link yourselves today) which was talking about how women snack in secret - fair enough I thought, who wants to share the chocolate with the kids?... Continue reading

Do we still need teachers?
Today I attended a fantastic conference organised by Geneva International school (the oldest in the world if you're interested). It was great, the coffee and lunch were lovely too. I was especially interested in the speech by this guy, Sugata Mitra. he described his "hole in the wall" experiment where... Continue reading

My dream hideaway
(source) One of my favourite day dreams (apart from the one where I'm in solitary confinement for a month or so) is of my ideal study. It's a secret room with a password/iris check entry system and sound proof walls so I couldn't hear the kids bickering. It has a... Continue reading

... and a couple of extra resolutions!
Is it too late for a couple of last minute resolutions? I hope not. To be honest I was too busy enjoying Christmas to think properly about New Year so it took me by surprise so to speak. I've just read A Year of Doing Good and was briefly tempted... Continue reading

Fabbook Awards 2012
(image source) One of the good things about goodreads is that it’s easy to see what I’ve read this year; this is especially useful as I forget every book I’ve read, sometimes within minutes of reading it. One friend commented on Now You See It, when I said it sounded... Continue reading

...and Hello 2013
(source) So, as I'm sure you're dying to hear all about my New Year's Resolutions, here they are: 1. Run - at least 30km a week and improve my time in the Paris marathon this April. 2. Read - more books than last year, when I read 78 books according... Continue reading

Goodbye 2012
Wow, what a year. This time last year I was thinking about how to make the year I turned forty count. I think I've managed that. Every, well most, nights when I put the kids to bed we do "best bit, worst bit", and talk about the high - and... Continue reading

To blog, or not to blog - that is the question
(source) As you can see below I made the decision to stop blogging a while ago, I was completely overloaded and something had to give. Although haven't any more free time, if anything things got worse towards the end of the year, I have missed having a place to share... Continue reading

Goodbye
As I sat listening to some favourite songs on youtube last night, finally relaxing after a busy week, thinking about all the things I hadn't found time to do - like post - it hit me. The answer is this, I don't have time to blog anymore, so I'm stopping.... Continue reading

Shock, horror, no poem today
My humble apologies for the lack of post this week. I've always managed it before, even posting every day for a month while being away in April for the A to Z blog challenge, but this week has just been too wizzy for words. Firstly the puppy managed to knock... Continue reading

Saturday is Poetry day...and back to School
This week has been pretty busy for a lot of people I think. Although, as a teacher my first days are not that fearful I do feel for these kids, throwing themselves into new lives with no safety net. Us adults tend to forget the stress of new situations with... Continue reading

The Top five songs I grew up with
Back to school means back to all those good habits I told you about the other day. That is why I was just grazing a few favourite blogs in the staffroom when I came across Kate’s new listography, one that had my name all over it, songs we grew up... Continue reading

New Term's Resolutions
(source) It’s the first Sunday evening that’s felt like a Sunday evening for a loooong time, and although the kids don’t start until Tuesday, I’m back at work tomorrow. I quite like my usual Sunday evening routine, it’s very therapeutic after what has usually been a pretty hectic weekend -... Continue reading

Saturday is Poetry day... and Rain
(source) Not living in the UK means that Rain is worth a mention here. Especially when accompanied by a fifteen degree drop in temperature. This time last week we were desperate to jump into the lake to cool off. This morning it's wellies and a raincoat. All is not as... Continue reading

I am the mother of a teen
On my kids’ birthdays I always give them a special hug (sometimes a present even!) and tell them the story of the day they were born… It was a hot summer’s morning/snowy night and mummy got up for breakfast/turned over in bed and thought she’d wet herself. At first my... Continue reading

Saturday is Poetry day...and Running
Having just got home from running a local 12km race the choice of today's poem is obvious. While some races and runs are really enjoyable, the best that can be said sometimes is " I did it", quickly followed by "Is it bedtime yet?" Running by Raymond A. Foss She... Continue reading
