Even though my faith is shaken…
About 2 months ago, I lost my 88 yr old father to heart disease. His life was rich with family and friends and memories of driving trucks across America. He made me laugh; he made me cry…but mostly, I knew... Continue reading

My dad will be gone 1 month this Friday...my birthday. I miss him so much. At night I "hear" him walking around in the halls. I know it will get better and he is in a much better place with his new body and my mom. I just want to hug him and kiss him one more time and tell him I love him.
My Father - A Tribute
It all began in 1951 when I was born into the family of Jake and Lucy Barndt. I had naturally curly hair (started red and turned blonde), I had big brown eyes and very deep dimples. I remember everyone telling me I looked like Shirley Temple. I was even called, The Little Princess, a movie wi...

Melitzanes Papoutsakia - "Little Shoes" Aubergines
This is a very popular Greek dish which consists of aubergine halves stuffed with a mince meat mixture and topped with a cheesy béchamel sauce. When cooked aubergines look like little shoes, hence the name "papoutsakia" meaning little shoes in Greek. Normally, there's a béchamel sauce topping, ...

Congratulations, Anastasia. I realize when we met it was on Yahoo 360. I had never blogged before and had no idea about the topics on which I would write. I began writing in response to your blogs, then got brave enough to publish my own blogs, and my poetry.... and you were very generous with your comments. You, Lakis, Constantine, and Stefania helped me get started. I love writing and was saddened when yahoo closed its site. I was thrilled to have you tell me about Typepad but really didn't write much. Now that I am retired, I write but basically for myself. I need to re-establish myself now that I have time to write. I miss all the comments but I know that is my fault since I did not spend much time on Typepad. I doubt I will ever reach 1000 posts and I am very proud of you...especially the one about our weekend in Cyprus. :) Congratulations to you! And thank you for getting me started with blogging.
Celebrating 1000 Posts on TypePad
April 1st, 2014 will be a day to remember as I am typing right now my 1000th post on TypePad. When I published my first post on September 11, 2004, I had no idea how to blog and I could certainly not imagine that one day I'd publish 1000 posts! Naturally, in ten years or so, this is definitely n...

Oh Dear Anastasia, the joy of our meeting was indeed mine. I have wanted to sit and talk to you for so long but it never seemed to happen. When Mesut said I should fly to Cyprus because we were in Izmir and it was so close, I thought I had died and gone to Heaven. My only disappointment (and his also) was that you did not get to meet him. He so wanted to be able to meet my wonderful friend who has always been "there for me". I loved our short time together and it seemed as if we have known each other all our lives. Next time, hopefully, he will be able to get a visa to Southern Cyprus and we can all enjoy each other's company. I love you so much and I too was masking tears. Thank you again for being so kind and generous. Alkis was a dream. I felt I knew him as well and the love I saw going between you both, gave me hope also for my relationship with Mesut. Thank you so much. I have such glorious memories but want to make many more. xoxoxo
Meeting Faith: A Dream Come True
My great friend Faith from Florida, USA and I have known each other online for 10 years. In these 10 years, we exchanged emails, comments and likes on Facebook, we texted each other and even talked briefly on the phone. Faith has always been for me the big sister I never had. Despite her own pe...

Anastasia, I can do all those things you described because I was taught to do them, but I hate to clean. I do it because it must be done. I have thought of hiring someone to clean but it is so expensive and I would have to clean before I allowed someone else to "really" clean. We are currently working at putting our home back into order after working 28 1/2 yrs and letting things go. It is a chore for sure but it must be done. Grrrrrr! I wish I was rich instead of beautiful. Haha!
Doing Housework
I can teach eight hours in a row and I'm not tired, I can exercise two hours in a row and I'm not tired, I can climb up or run down stairs four times daily and I'm not tired....But ask me to do housework and I need a break every ten minutes. Indeed, housework is not my cup of tea, I hate it! Thi...

MEMORIES
Since the beginning of this New Year, 2014, many of my thoughts and desires are based upon memories from my past (family and friends, travel) and memories I am making in the present, and hopefully, the future memories which will be made. Of course, memories are both good and bad, but these memo...

Oh how I wish we had cooler weather here. I love the cold and snow (not sure how my body would accept it) but here, Florida is the hottest place in the continental US. Today it was 85 degrees and humid. Unbearable for mid-December. I love roaring fires, warm blankets and cuddling with the one you love, with gentle music playing in the background. I especially like it with only Christmas lights and candles lighting the room. Hmmmmmmmmm Would I give anything for this scenerio right now.
Let it Snow!
Not long ago, I was very happy to post about our unusually warm weather in mid-November - clear blue skies and temperatures rising to beautiful 26*C. But early December came to take revenge. Anyway, revenge is a plate best served cold! Photo Credit Photo by Christos Theodorides for Cyprus Ma...

Christmas Memories
Christmas has always been my favourite time of year after the summer. As a little girl, I would help mum decorate the Christmas tree and make the traditional Christmas sweets - melomakarona and kourabiedes. On Christmas day all the family would gather together at mum's. I can still picture me si...

Fighting a Puff
On July 30, 2012, I made a commitment and was determined to stick to it and go cold turkey: never take another puff! Giving up smoking wasn't easy but I'm proud of myself because it's been a year now I haven't lit up. Last July, I was diagnosed with PAD - Peripheral Arterial Disease - and went t...
