My first Paleo Chix post was about loving your tree. Loving yourself as you are, kind of like Mr. Rogers. Remember that? "I love you just the way you are." Goofy, sure, but totally necessary in this culture in which we live, where we are bombarded with messages that tell us otherwise. We should be as thin as this model, have hair like this actress, dress as sharply as this singer. To aspire to a random ideal, while denying our own unique essence. There is nothing wrong with wanting improve yourself. When you love and accept yourself, it does not... Continue reading

The definition of change from Merriam-Webster dictionary is: 1 a : to make different in some particular 2 a : to replace with another Today I write about change because my original post is not appearing due to a future NEW blog that should be appearing (where O where can it be?). What's a girl to do when things do not work out as planned? You roll with punches so to speak! I have 22 "families" participating in a 30 day Paleo Nutrition program and we started Sunday. Week one is detox and it's a tough week. Our bodies are... Continue reading

I'm curious as to everyone's experience with their families. Are your families supportive of your efforts to eat Paleo? Are you the lone modern hunter-gatherer lost in a vast gluten wasteland? Or is it somewhere in the middle, where your strange eating habits are tolerated, but not embraced. Do people ask you about your eating? And why you choose to eat that way? My immediate family- my daughter Nina, and boyfriend Jack are completely on board. Jack eats Paleo effortlessly and Nina, while she hasn't totally converted over to Paleo, has changed much of her food choices. She is aware... Continue reading

One thing that may be stopping you from going (pardon the pun) whole hog paleo is the perceived cost of this lifestyle. I'll tell you some of my tricks of how I feed 3 people, and 2 cats on an average of $100/week. Yes, the 2 cats, Zaida (my cat, petite tortoiseshell with lovely exotic Arabic name) and Pudder (chubsy wubsy male cat of Jack's) when not dueling to the death, are carnivores and eat both cooked and raw food. That can be another day's post! But I include their food in the grocery bill. MEAT: this is where you... Continue reading

My title defines me. ::SIGH:: I am not totally off, but I've definitely got one leg dragging on the ground. While living in Arizona my life consisted of my job and CrossFit. The people I worked out with were my friends & family, this made it extremely easy to stay committed to the Paleo & healthy lifestyle. Since I moved to Michigan one month ago, things aren't quite the same and I've got to imagine this is how most people feel. I now have a job, family, CrossFit & my friends all in completely separate groups. Having all of my... Continue reading

I eat when I’m happy. I eat when I’m sad. In other words, I eat A LOT!! When we are hit suddenly with major stress, it’s easy to grab the bag of chips or pint of Ben&Jerry's. But how will that make you feel afterward? That was my Sunday. Cookie dough in hand, I attempted to eat away my woes. I felt horrible. I reverted to my non-Paleo self and went for the sugar. The sugar crash and coma were soon to follow – never a good thing. But the fact is it happens to all of us. Life throws... Continue reading

I am not the girl who prepares on Sundays. I have GREAT intentions to be that girl, but I am 23 and everything else in my life ends up being more important. Yet, I still maintain a Paleo lifestyle. It took awhile to learn how to do this, but I have learned some quick and easy things that make my fast-paced, health-obsessive life work for me. I live by four basic standards: First and foremost, you can toss (pretty much) anything into a skillet with olive oil and it will taste good. Chicken, beef, pork, hamburger, broccoli, peppers, asparagus, carrots,... Continue reading

I rummaged through the fridge this afternoon, pulling out the ingredients to make dinner. Wha? I forgot to defrost the chicken breast for paleo pizza! Oh brother, now what? I moved some things around and was little perplexed. What would dinner be now? There a small package of boneless pork loins...hmmmm. What about using those instead? They were pretty thick, and I didn't know how they'd respond to pounding, but I figured what the hey. Wax paper on counter, pork in the middle, wax paper on top - Let the pounding begin! On a comical note, my mallet is a... Continue reading

So Christmas is upon us - 18 days to go, as a matter of fact!!! If you are like me, your budget is sssttttretched beyond max. For me and many others, that means giving baked goods as a holiday gift to friends, co-workers and family. But wait..... if you're a Paleo girl, what the heck are you gonna bake??? You could just give your loved ones the standard iced sugar cookies and cheese ball, but if you're gonna talk the talk, it's time to walk the walk!! Yes, my friends, Paleo holiday treats is what I'm talking about! How better... Continue reading

Last but (hopefully) not least, I am Tyler! :) I'm going to jump around a bit between the beginning of me, and the beginning of the new Paleo/CrossFit me. I am 23 years old and for the first 22 years of my life have been completely inactive. I was one of those naturally "skinny girls" (who couldn't run around the block without keeling over!!). I remember going on a run with my then boyfriend and barely being able to hold back the tears less than 1 minute in because of so much pain. It was then that I made the... Continue reading

I'm up to bat and ready to get you fired up!! Before we commence with that, let me tell ya'll a little about me. My name is Patty "Cookie" Ruiz. I am a 42 year old single mother to 3 beautiful girls. I have worked in the court system for over 15 years, and lived in San Diego my whole life. Like most of you, when I became a mother, making myself or my health a priority was NOT an option. I jogged a little here and there, but until I was 40, i was pretty darn sedentary for about... Continue reading

Weekends are tough, many are off work/school/etc, your looking for entertainment, attending social gatherings, it's just life! I used to dread the weekends, those around me would try to force sweet drinks and junk food my way, why because they just do not understand. I think others feel guilty when they see you eating an apple and they have a cookie, or your having a burger with no bun and they have a wod of bread to digest. They eat and feel sluggish and you are ready to go for a nice afternoon hike. Stay strong, maybe someday they will... Continue reading

Yesterday's post included a few Thanksgiving tips from our fellow Paleo friend Steve. Let's break down Thanksgiving. Meat: Turkey some people have beef roast or ham. Vegetables: Green Beans, Sweet Potatoes without the brown sugar, Salad. Fruit: Cranberry's, apples, Paleo Pumpkin Pie. Drink water with lemon. Just a suggestion, if your tempted by a roll, this year eat half the roll, don't make an announcement that YOUR ONLY EATING HALF A ROLL, because your on Paleo. My personal suggestion, make good choices, eat as much as you want and REALLY you can do without the bread, maybe not grandma's special... Continue reading

As women we ALLOW ourselves to be pulled 100 ways. If you have children, a partner/spouse, a job, etc, women tend to say YES more than NO and spread themselves thin for others. Have you ever woke up and said, "I just do not feel like working out or making good food choices today?" I have!!! TELL ME (I know your out there this site is getting 100 hits a day average) WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN THIS SCENARIO HAPPENS TO YOU? Personally most of the time I shake off the beast of self doubt, and pity. I get up,... Continue reading

By no means do I want you to EVER STARVE yourself!!! Sometimes we MUST go out to eat! You have several choices, first and foremost, where you go. Do I go to McDonald's and have a Grilled Chicken Sandwich (throw out the bun) or do I go to In and Out and have a Protein Style Burger? Maybe it's a nice restaurant with friends? Last week I went to my favorite Spanish Restaurant and had my favorite item Fajitas (no tortilla, beans, or rice). It was so yummy, my crave was covered, I never missed no having the tortilla no... Tis the season, people are thinking food! And not healthy food. Each year we go through a fitness burnout and nutrition deficit. People eat sugar by the ton, consuming processed foods, and making last minute trips through the drive-thru. Work out? Take Care Of Myself..Huh? I have to shop, cook and make others happy! We are a STRESSED NATION this time of year! Stick with me this year, let's work on "YOU" all the holiday hubbub can wait at least 1 hour during your workout. And heck after that tough workout, Paleo nutrition will take away the sluggishness, you WOULD... Continue reading
