The Chaos Walking series by Patrick Ness are most certainly post-apocalyptic and told in dialect. And you should really read them, despite the the talking animal thing. It works in the story, and isn't at all forced or fake.
I saw the play years ago in London, and it was creepy as heck. But even as someone with a hugely overactive imagination which regularly causes nightmares, I loved it! I hope the film doesn't suck. I'd also like to track down the original novel some day and see how that compares to all the adaptations.

That is a pretty accurate synopsis of Knife. I loved loved loved the first two books, and am eagerly awaiting the third, but holy Hannah, they make the Hunger Games books look like happy fluffy little books, full of sunshine and lollipops. I cried, a lot, but DAMN they're good.
Lisbeth reminds me a lot of Smilla in Smilla's Sense of Snow. I love love love that book. (Fun fact: the two translators are married to each other. And my mom went to high school with Tiina.)
