I'm glad I'm not the only one who didn't find "Bridesmaids'" funny. It got lots of buzz around Oscar time and everyone was talking about how Melissa McCarthy was so funny, but it put me asleep.
Dear Comedy Central: At Some Point You're Gonna Be Funny, Right?
Is there a point where Comedy Central starts being funny, aside from Daily Show and Colbert? For that matter... when exactly is comedy going to start being funny again? Daily Show and Colbert Report are funny as hell, folks. I enjoy them, personally and professionally, particularly when they thr...

I just heard on my favorite morning radio station--Thanks to the internet-- that Danny Bonaduce's 88 year old mother has a blog. (amongthegold.com) Definitely means I should be able to do better. She said the same thing I say as to why I do prefer a blog over Facebook. More... Continue reading

time to update
wow, haven't realized it's been 2 years since I posted to this. Taking the challenge issued by John Anealio( http://scifisongs.blogspot.com/2013/01/will-you-take-23-in-13-challenge.html ) to be creative at least 23 ways this year. Now I only have 22 to go. Continue reading

You are spot on this summer. Avengers was a great movie. Dark Shadows promos just so wrong I won't even watch it when it hits cable much less spend any money on it.
Dark Knight looks awesome. I agree Spiderman did not need a reboot, but will probably watch it at some point. Also Snow White and the Huntsman ( Chris Hemsworth after all) and I'm pretty sure my hubby and bro-in-law will want to check out Battleship.
Sasha Baron Cohen and Will Ferrell mean DO NOT WATCH. Other films will see how the summer plays out and how my DVD/DVR backlog clears
Summer Movie Kickoff!
Welcome back from CultureGeek's hiatus! And what a way to start the summer - you've seen Avengers, yes? Apparently everyone has, or plans to this weekend. So much for the lackluster movie industry - let's see what Hollywood has in store for us this summer! As per usual: I do not cover every movi...
We have this movie sitting in a pile of VHS tapes.
(Yes, We still have a player that works). I've been meaning to watch it all the way through, since I have seen parts of it on TCM. Your review has reminded me that I need watch it.
Thanks.
The Ghost and Mrs. Muir
Every once in a while I delve into old movies I've never seen, because sometimes you find the most amazing stories in them. They're the kind of stories you couldn't sell to a major studio today, and sometimes that's a good thing: melodrama was a true art form in the 1940s, sculpted like clay and...
I haven't seen it but it just sounds sad. I'm not a fan of Dr. Pepper. Never really liked the taste. Most of my best friends are men. Matter of fact even though I am married, I find I like talking to the guys at the party more than the ladies. Matter of fact, last party I went too, I got frustrated when a number of the men left and the ladies left got into way too much "girl" talk. And while I like some romantic comedies, I also like action and Science Fiction a lot more. ( just a side note,my husband actually likes a few of the better written romantic comedies as well as the entire Lucas/Spielberg library). I realize age wise, (50) I'm completely out of the demographic that the advertisers care about, but these ad folks really need to get a clue. Of course, they are probably cut from the same cloth as the congress critters, but that is another story.
My Soda Is More Manly Than Yours
I had to see it to believe it. I love Gena Radcliffe's "You Are Not a Winner" blog, and as usual she nails it with her analysis of Dr. Pepper's new soda: Dr. Pepper Ten. "I find it amusing, not to mention profoundly stupid, and if I threw a fit over every profoundly stupid thing I encounter on a...

Wow, 2011 is going fast. Have some pictures to post soon. Number one guy, LesTKtrooper, has been busy with the 501st. I've been busy taking care of my Dad. I really have learned to appreciate the times when He was well and we were a full family with my Mom.... Continue reading

Read this story last year for sure. I am a regular reader but not a regular commenter. But nothing beats home fireworks.
My Dad always lit them for us. He wasn't with me this year, he's with my sister recoverying from a broken hip, but I thought of him last night while a bunch of my friends lit them and one of my friends kids learned to light some for the first time. Thanks for sharing. ( and yes, we still get a little subversive pleasure when the bottle rockets shot out of the yard since fireworks are illegal in the St. Louis area too.)
Because it's become a yearly tradition, here's a story about fireworks
I've written hundreds of thousands of words over the years, but this remains one of my all-time favorites, so I like to revisit it every year. It was originally written and published on July 5, 2002, which usually feels like years and days ago all at once, but this year actually feels like a lif...
Life being what it was I only just saw X-Men: First Class this weekend.
Really liked it, even Kevin Bacon wasn't bad although I agree that he wasn't the main story, so that's probably why it worked. Perfect tie-in to the X universe as presented in the movies. ( since I was introduced via the movies I don't have comic conflicts, however my friends who do know the comics did agree with you that they tied together pretty well) will probably see POTC on video. Green Lantern was good. Just that I liked X-Men better.
Harry Potter finale is the must see for my group. The other remakes not so much.
CultureGeek: Summer catchup!
My apologies, dear readers. I'd like to say that the crazy book tour is the reason I've fallen behind in the reviews. But really, there are two reasons: • Movies now cost ten freaking dollars a ticket. • We lost the Tivo zapper. No kidding, the second was more of a blow than the first. Three wee...
I'm a rabid follower of Peter David's "Fallen Angel" series from IDW. and of course, have been collecting the Guild related comics from Felicia Day. Have been picking up a few of the IDW Star Trek titles. Haven't had the time or the money to spend much time in either the DC or Marvel universe, but may try and pick up a Trade or 2 to catch up this weekend at Planet ComicCon.
It's Wednesday, so here's a post about comic books
When I was a kid, I was a DC Universe guy all the way, with rare forays into the Marvel Universe to read a few X-Men books, and the occasional Silver Surfer 100 page spectacular (remember those? I loved those oversized one shots in the 70s and 80s.) I realized last week, though, that the bulk of...
You have got me. I know what my readiing tonight will be.
I will have to read the story again out of my Grimm Fairy Tales book.
It's a great volume of all the original versions, but I have only picked it up sporadically. I definitely need to read it.
The Disney movie is beautifully made, but it is defintely makes Snow White a bit of a wimp.
She does come off a bit wiser in a bit there done that way in the short lvied sitcom "the Charmings" from the 80's but I defintely would like to see the original Grimm's version done on film.
"Ever After" was a very close interpretation of the Cinderella story and one of my favorites even though I have always loved the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical version that ran for many years on CBS.
Snow White and the Seven Movie Adaptations
Okay, it's not seven - at least not yet. But there are currently three (3) movie adaptations of the classic fairytale Disney made famous on their way to us right now. Seriously, Hollywood, you couldn't spread that out a bit? • Snow White and the Huntsman, starring Twilight's eternally-pouting Kr...
Fortunately, I haven't seen a godaddy commercial because I don't even watch the commercials at the BIG GAME any more.
I know it's this weekend because my friend is opening her house and I will go with my dog to visit, but will probably be in another room.
I still have never seen Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction, I was asleep by half time that year so all of this hoopla is wasted on me.
Dear GoDaddy...
Hi there. I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Elizabeth Donald. I'm an author with about five or six books in print. I'm a reporter for a mid-size daily newspaper. I'm a writer active on social networks with thousands of readers. I'm a business owner with an active online presence and web s...
If they do it right, the network executives will cancel it prematurely.
Birds of Prey was just getting to the big payoff when it was canceled. (That was must see for both my hubby and myself. Men will watch strong women if it's written right. He also loves Wonder Woman)
Merciful Minerva! Wonder Woman returns to TV
I have rarely been so terrified of a project that could be so potentially awesome. No one expected that NBC would pick up David E. Kelley's reboot of Wonder Woman. It's a reinvention of Diana Prince as a corporate executive who is also a vigilante crime fighter. No word on whether that means the...
I guess I'm hopelessly old. I like the fact that my phone flips open like a Star Trek Communicator and will take a picture of my dog.
That's it. I can't text decent on a regular phone pad and won't pay extra for it. I do enjoy my one extra purchase: my ST:TNG theme ringtone. It's the easiest to hear that I've ever had and distinguishes my phone from my hubby's ( who just finally got on the plan)who had to have the Star Wars theme ringtone.
Our long national nightmare is nearly over...
And by that, of course, I mean the endless breathless wait for a Verizon iPhone. Oh, shut up. I am an Original Mac User, buster. I was Mac when Mac was for nerds. Not geeks - NERDS. Everyone complaining that we Mac users just follow the oh-so-cool trends can shaddup, because I had Macs when they...

I think a true comedy and the best is The Big Bang Theory.
Of course, this seasons follow up (Shat)My Dad Says, is abominable with only 2 exceptions, the night Shatner sang Karaoke, (classic Shata) and last night when I didnn't change the channel fast enough and he did a TJ Hooker over the car hood.
Glad you are back. ( I'm using my Typepad sign in, on your News Democrat site, I was KathySTL)

I spent the whole weekend with my dog, Riley. He's a Pekingese. My husband was out of town playing Stormtrooper with the 501st Legion.
Best part of the weekend was when Riley joined the Band. (Rock Band 3 for Wii).
I can't remember the song now, but just as the track started there was a barking dog and then Riley barked right in tune and time and then waited for a part to do it again ( unfortunately didn't happen, so he curled back up on his pillow again)
good morning
I woke this morning to the sound of rain falling outside my window, and discovered that both of my dogs had jumped up onto my bed overnight and were snuggled into me to keep warm. When I lifted my head from my pillow, I saw that both cats were also on the bed, tucked into tiny little "I really w...

My dog Riley is the joy of my life.
We haven't had him quite a year.
While he is not a rescue, he did come from a home where he was not able to kept anymore so my husband and I feel like we assured him a happy home. He is now a 4 1/2 year old Pekingese. cute as a button and very smart. ( and spoiled)
To celebrate the legacy of our awesome dog
Last year Anne and I raised some money for the Pasadena Humane Society in memory of our awesome dog, Ferris. When I wrote about it here, Anne said: Just over 8 years ago, I made a right turn instead of a left out of the Home Depot parking lot. That was a turn that would change our lives forev...
