Re the picture. You look at the hat that yellow-vest is wearing, and you have to ask who the slicker is here?
Baby you can drive my car
by Doctor Science Sorry about the lack of posting, gang. In addition to doing a lot of that "work" thing, I've been shopping for a used car. I don't know if anyone predicted, back in 1996 or so, how much that old-school business would change in the next ten years. Now, although buying a used car ...
I'm very lefthanded. Never had serious problems with it; the only sport I ever played much was soccer, where it doesn't matter much.
There's always the minor stuff, of course: dragging my hand through the ink while writing in school, and power tools and electronics are all designed for right-handed use.
Your lefthanded open thread
by liberal japonicus I'm righthanded. Severely so. And, as is typical for me, my life has been wrapped up with things that would have been better had I been left handed. For sports, I've broken all my fingers in my left hand, but never my right hand, due to a lack of dexterity in the left. I pla...
I use it to keep track of various relatives I don't see very often. I have yet to have any old schoolmates come looking for me, which is honestly something of relief. Having a fairly common name probably helps/hurts in this regard.
Getting in your Face(book)
21st Century Gary Farber presents: A guest post by liberal japonicus: I got pulled into Facebook when my horn teacher got into it and cajoled/threatened/ordered us to join. I did and immediately hooked up with a number of people who I had lost touch with, which was a gas. However, within a day ...
Ditto Bruce's comments. We just can't keep doing this forever. Not morally or something, literally, physically -can't-. Something's gonna give. If/when a GOPer gets back into the White House, it's gonna give all the faster.
However, in the immediate term, speaking as a resident of Washington State, the chances of Dino Rossi unseating Senator Patty Murray are zero. (Especially if he continues to try and get by without the endorsement of the official/former Wingnut candidate.)
Divided we stand…stock still
There are Serious People in Washington seriously looking forward to the Republicans taking control of Congress in the fall because they fully expect that the Republicans will not be able to do anything except make sure that President Obama can’t do anything. These people, some of whom I suspect ...
I'm a slacker who lives in the capitol of Washington state. Well, actually the next town over, but there are three cities that have smashed together in one big lump. Been coming to OW for several years now. Other sites I like are The Agonist, Balloon Juice, and The Exiled.
Introductions
by Jacob Davies Back on the Well (in the stone age of the Internet), there was a tradition of having an introductions thread when a new forum was opened. The hosts and the regular users would introduce themselves and invite any new members to do likewise. The nice thing about it was that even if...
I like Oliver's site as well, but, yes, his unflinching support for the Racial Slurs leaves a very bad taste in my mouth. And unfortunately, at the moment, it appears his WWW address-redirect service isn't working..
The Mannionville Daily Gazette’s Favorite Blogs of the Day
The Phil Nugent Experience. Because it’s the real thing and not an incredible simulation, and because it’s Phil’s birthday, and because he likes The Iron Giant. It’s also Oliver Willis’ birthday, but you knew that because you read Oliver’s blog every day or you should and if you don’t, what’s wr...
I don't drink, but I was getting offered them in restaurants when I was 14. I've always looked about ten years older than I am..
Geek in Review: Carded
I went to the mall this weekend to buy Dead Rising, to use in my next GiR, which will be the now-annual Creepy, Geeky Games feature, and ended up with fodder for this week's column while I was there: Geek in Review: Carded My wife and I are both in our mid-thirties. We have two kids, one of whom...

As the Call of Cthulhu rulebook itself says: CoC is the only role-playing game where the big prize for finishing an adventure is a moldy old book which causes your face to melt off just for looking at the pictures...
I also wanted to toss out another vote for The Awful Green Things, along with another Tom Wham-designed game, Snit's Revenge. Maybe not the best-designed games ever, but wonderfully goofy and light-hearted.
Geek in Review: Shall We Play A Game?
Though I have developed an entirely unnatural mancrush on my Wii, and I've spent what laughably passes for my free time playing Warioware and making the entire cast of the Brady Bunch as Miis, I've had analog gaming on the brain. So this week's Geek in Review, Shall We Play A Game? is all about ...

For the ultimate version of this game, check out the Dawn of the Dead remake from a couple of years back..

When I was in my very early 20s, this girl who I dated and I played this celebrity lookalike game. Whenever we saw someone who looked like a celebrity, one of us would say, "Hey, there's Nell Carter" or "Don't look now, but Kirk Cameron is shopping in Target." One day, we were eating lunch at th...
