Oh-ven (how to say oven in dutch)
I've been wanting to buy a smooth-surface, double-oven range for some time now so imagine how excited I was to discover the only working large burner on my current, cheapo, non-self-cleaning, range no longer worked. (The other one went out... Continue reading

Mrs. Tea has to pee…a lot
As a lifelong tea drinker, I have been enjoying mom’s Mrs. Tea brewer for several months now. You coffee people have the luxury of a machine you can fill the night before and set to have brewed your stinking beverage... Continue reading

Kids!
What started as a chic Kitty City: Has been downsized to a slightly smaller village: Or perhaps more of a Kitty Corner. Ziva Zone? Pet Parkway? Bring it on, people! The real reason I moved the main structure is because... Continue reading

I hereby dub thee…Ziva!
Look at all that white hair coming through making her all salt and peppery! I finally settled on the name Ziva* for Terror Kitty because, well, no explanation needed if you watch NCIS. If you don’t, here’s a wiki page... Continue reading

Bones has got to go
Not the kitty, silly! The name. She is no longer skin and bones and, as much as I adore Star Trek, “Bones” simply doesn’t fit my girly girl. Here she is 2 days after she fell into my life: We’ve... Continue reading

Greetings Albluesparkle. I am indeed on Facebook. You can search for me under my email address getsheila at comcast.net. To answer your question about the size of tray to purchase, your tray needs to be at least 1" smaller in width than your opening to accommodate the hinges, possibly more. Mine are approximately 1.5" smaller than the opening. Some trays can be trimmed to fit, as well.
How to install a sink tip-out tray
Clearly I need to post something to take your mind off the Atwater Embezzlistas. How about sink tray installation instructions? That will lull you into submission. Step-by-step instructions at the end of this post. When I took my kitchen cabinets apart to paint them, I discovered the sink front ...

I have a new kitten. I blame my friend Janice. She called me Friday morning in a panic to say her daughter’s step-mother found 3 teeny tiny kittens by the side of the road and brought them home Thursday night.... Continue reading

Deja Vu
Remember when I was an alternate on the jury of a criminal trial? GUESS WHAT? Okay, I haven’t actually been picked yet but I am in the box. So far, the judge has read us instructions and both he and... Continue reading

Garage, …not quite conquered but definitely subdued
I started with this: And ended with this: The stuff in front of the washer & dryer is temporary and will soon go to new homes. I used the rafters whenever possible: rolled up rugs, extra vertical blind vanes, kitty... Continue reading

Shed, conquered! (Garage still kicking my ass)
I finished stuffing the shed like a sausage. Man can that thing hold a lot o’ crap. I made sure it was still functional, though, i.e. I can still walk around and get to everything AND actually open bins to... Continue reading

I have a shed
It should not come as a surprise to me that I have a backyard shed. It was here when I moved in 5 years ago, after all. It’s just that I’ve always thought of it as a “garden” shed and... Continue reading

Exhausted
Where have I been, you ask? Well… WELL…I’ve been busy. December: Mom got sick and almost died…again…so she finally agreed to move in with me. Have you ever cleared out the 40-year domicile of a pack-rat? No? ATTEMPT IT AT... Continue reading

I love a challenge! (not so true these days, it turns out)
Let the Week-of-Fixing-Up-Mom's-House begin! So far, I've...uh, purchased paint. I started washing the walls but, you know what? IT'S HARD. Well, maybe not "hard" but they're so big and the sponge is so tiny and they haven't been washed in... Continue reading

As if the 1%ers didn’t have a bad name already
Dear Cheryl in Bend, Oregon: I’m so glad my sister Karen was able to help you obtain your new dog from California, a sweet blue Queensland heeler. After paying $200 to the breeder/trainer in California, I can see how the... Continue reading

Gosh, since last we spoke, this happened: Discovered cockroaches in my kitchen. HORROR. Eradicated said cockroaches. Turns out they were holed up in the battery compartment of my automatic dry kitty food dispenser. I got the bug man out here... Continue reading

Weather is a serious thing
I did not make fun of East Coasters for overreacting to their little earthquake. I do not mock other states who complain about a few weeks of swelter we deal with ALL SUMMER LONG. No, because, one day, it’s going... Continue reading

Karen: LOL! Yes, it was Bigelow that I used to mail order but they started carrying Twinnings at my grocery store and I didn't notice a difference. Guess I'm not as much of a tea snob as I think I am. I take milk in my tea. Half and half is for you coffee drinkers. :)
Tea has a flavor – don’t mess with it
Raley's was out of Darjeeling tea. Again. (WTH, Raley's?) Some shopper probably did what I usually do and bought out the whole supply, knowing they never seem to have any in stock. Damn me for waiting to shop until I was completely out! I decided to try Bigelow French Vanilla for a change of p...

Does Apple have a “one free drop” policy?
I don’t know the answer to whether Apple has a “one free drop” policy. All I know is I went to the Apple Store with my iPad2’s spectacularly cracked screen and left with a brand new one for free. Here... Continue reading

Holy crap, turns out I need a 3rd coat of paint plus 2 or 3 thin coats of shellac to make it both pretty pretty white and impervious to scratches. I'm having trouble motivating myself to get started but "If you don't have time to do it right, when will you have time to do it over?" No idea who originally said that but whoever it was is a genius. And a bastard.
I’m more of a Glossy White than a Knotty Pine
In addition to revamping my master closet, Tania and I painted my giant living room entertainment center. BEFORE: AFTER: HOW WE GOT IT DONE: I owe Tania a big BIG THANK YOU for helping me with this. I never would have gotten it accomplished without your help, my friend. I LOVE the way ...

JCW: I wanted something that was portable and the fact that it rolls like a suitcase is AWESOME. It was $60 at Home Depot. They bought them to have on hand for Father's Day and have a ton left, at least down here in Merced.
Not for girlie-girls
If you cry when you break a nail, stop reading. You won’t find this even remotely interesting. If, however, you are someone who Gets Shit Done, read on. This is my old tool box along with my cordless drill with two batteries (in the black bag,) two drill/driver bit sets, a set ratchet set,and my...
