magic | captured : a mini book workshop
It's been 2.5 years since our first trip to Disney World. A trip that was going to be one and done - HA. Since then, we've taken a few more trips, a zillion more photos, and made a lot of memories. And while I have a couple BIG album projects in the works to record individual trips, I wanted t...
i use a typewriter - mine's a c. 1930s portable royal. =)
holidays and fairy tales
Just like that, another Christmas is behind us. It came and went in a flurry of friends, family, presents and good food. And now we're left with the reality of dealing with things that we were trying not to think about till after the holiday. We've got two kids with school choices to make (mid...
The album is much slower going. ;) Thanks Cele!

3 boys, 2 parents and 9 days at WDW & Universal. Lots of magic, very little sleep. I wanted to try and tell these stories in a different way, so I settled in with all of the photos and videos we shot while on the trip, and started making a video. Somewhere along the way, I had to stop and buy ...
Aw, I love that. Thanks - it sounds like you had a great trip!

It's ALWAYS time to plan another trip. ;)

We had some teenage girls on the raft that were horrified that they were getting wet (it WAS a cold day.. but, uh, what did you expect?) .. he thought they were hilarious. ;)

I used VideoStudio8 - but the lower priced one. I think 7 would have worked (and been cheaper!), but 8 had screen capture software and since that was something I've wanted for work at times, I decided to go for it.
Thanks!! I totally agree that the emotion hits harder in the video.. it's there in the scrapbook pages, but it's more my personal connection to the photo. The video makes me feel like I'm there again. =)

I totally get that! Sam was 6 on our first trip last year.. it was SO nice not to have to deal with strollers and naptimes and diapers! I do miss some of the absolute wonder that seems to come w/ taking them when they're younger.. but it's nice when they can keep up with you. =)
9 days / 180000 steps / 3000 photos
And this one is my very favorite. I am thankful for the moments of wonder. For the shows and rides and parades. For being together. For good meals and awesome snacks. For the silliness and the crazy that Disney seems to inspire. I am thankful for the magic they bring to my everyday, and for h...
Sounds like the perfect excuse to me! I liked that my bag was big enough to hold my ID / credit card, some cash, meds that we might need for the day, and our portable phone chargers.
magic 2014
Since I'm not even done with my 2013 album, I thought I'd go ahead and start my 2014 album. Totally makes sense, right? Okay, so maybe not... but I do have my reasons. As I've been working on the framework for my 2013 Disney Handbook, I've kept 2014 in mind. I want the planning I'm doing for...
Just dig in and do it!! Think of it this way - it's more of a disservice to have them where you can't look at them. I've basically just got pics printed and into a handbook from our trip last year, no journaling or patterned paper or embellishing - but we still love to flip through it!

We were in the parks for 6 days, 10+ hours a day in most cases... and I have zero regrets about dragging my dSLR. I got a good camera bag (Crumpler 5mil dollar home) that was comfortable to carry and fit on 95% of the rides - I think that was key. I love shooting w/ my iphone, but the clarity of SLR pics just can't be beat, and most of my very favorites from the trip were shot with my Canon.

It will be! It isn't up in the shop yet, but we are working to make that happen.
Poet Society Sneaks
I took my mess on the road. I'm in Bowling Green at the Studio Calico offices this week, and my kit came with me. I took over April's desk and spent some time working on Poet Society projects last night. Here's a little peek of what's coming to my gallery this reveal : Those alpha stamps are...
It was a bit of a whirlwind, but here's what we did. I've been meaning to do a blog post about some of these places - maybe it'll happen now that the kiddos are back in school!
St Louis :
Rooster. AWESOME Breakfast.
City Museum. Definitely a MUST DO. Schedule a whole day for it. We got there at noon and didn't see everything!
Pi Pizzeria. Downtown, really good pizza.
Donut Drive-In. Ended up here when Strange Donuts was sold out. It was good, but nothing earth shattering.
Pickles Deli. Downtown near the arch. Good sandwiches.
The Old Courthouse. ACK, a little history. ;) We had time to kill before the Arch.
The Arch. Of course. =)
Fitz's. They bottle their own soda and have a restaurant. We hit it on the way out of town and had ice cream floats.
Kansas City :
World's of Fun. 12 hours of amusement park-ness.
Moon Marble Co. So fun to explore - we stop there every time we are down there.
Fritz's. A train runs around the top of the place and delivers your food - which is pretty much the only redeeming factor.
We visit KC often, but this was our first trip to St Louis. We'd love to spend more time there!
one road trip | 19 photos | 1 Project Life® page
Back at the start of June, we took a quick road trip to St Louis and Kansas City. We explored some amazing new places, visited some old favorites, and came home with a lot of photos and memories. While my favorite photos and stories will find their way onto layouts, I love having a a complete ov...
I keep get getting distracted by wanting to be there!
the 5 stages of a big project
I've found that big memory keeping projects go through several stages. 1) The honeymoon | You've come up with the project, you're excited to get going. You're full of ideas. This is going to be THE BEST PROJECT EVER. 2) Disenchantment | You've started pulling product together and sorting phot...

in short
My "winging it" Disney Handbook has, at the present time, 3 finished pages. We're going back in 4 months. I think it's time for a plan. There's nothing like a deadling to motivate, right? First up - editing the photos and coming up with an outline. Ready, Set, GO. (animated gif made with the ...
that's a good goal - good luck!! it was our first trip, too. so. many. photos!

Yep, just a regular needle! You might slow the speed down a bit if you're nervous, but I've never had a problem. You can sew through wood veneer, too. =)

I love using patterned transparencies on scrapbook pages - they add a lot of visual interest and dimension since you can layer items both underneath it an on top. I started this page with a neutral background and a transparency printed with white script. As I added layers to the page, I stuck ...
i think it would be worth a try if you're willing to sacrifice a page protector if it doesn't work out. ;) i'd use as little glue as possible, and make sure the confetti is all pushed to the other side until it dries.
i also like using washi to seal off a page protector, but it doesn't work well with this style since it closes down the middle. it's awesome if it closes on top!
kelly noel also has a great tutorial over at SC sharing some new sew confetti pocket ideas - maybe one of these would work? http://www.studiocalico.com/blog/2014/4/15/confetti-pockets-tutorial-kelly-noel
i'd love to hear what you end up doing!
capture your summer
As crazy and hectic as summer can be, it offers a much needed time to recharge and reconnect. We made a summer bucket list last year, and it proved to be a great way to shake up our usual routine and to get us out and exploring some of the fun our city has to offer. I recorded that list with a t...
hi monica! i lightly drew out the shape of a half sun, and then wrote the letters to fit inside. i'm thinking i'll do a similar wall this year (but haven't done it yet) - i'll try and take some process pics and post them!
getting ready to record summer
We're in the honeymoon phase of summer vacation. I generally let the first week be a free for all - which means a lot of general laziness and video games. ;) But after that, we need a bit of structure!! Last year, we made a summer list with a mix of big activities and silly little things we co...
Thanks Nicole! It's an app called "Daily Weather." I love the design of it - so much cuter than other weather apps.
