Seattle, WA by way of Reston, VA, but I'm from Youngstown, OH. And I'm moving to Austin, TX, just to make it interesting.

I TOTALLY thought you had a rooster too when I read that. (did you just think I had one, when I said "too"? Hehe)
Because this trip has been so hectic, I have barely had a moment to breathe since we left Denver on 7/21, let alone catch everyone up on our adventures. So I'm just breaking the trip up into its composite pieces, and I'll write one piece at a time in order, until I get you all caught up. All told, it has been an excellent trip, and we're having a great time getting to see so many people we love. Continue reading

Cole and I actually managed to have a successful visit to the pool today. We both had an excellent time, and hopefully Dad and Braychan can spend some more Monday mornings together so that we can do it again! Continue reading

Boy, we really have been busy! First, the big news. We are moving to an apartment in Lone Tree, CO (about 20 min north of Mom's house), which is much closer to town and right next to the light rail station. That will save us a bunch of money for parking, gas, and general car-maintenance-cost, which is really fantastic. We'll miss spending so much time with Mom & Bob, but it is so great to know that we will be on our own again. We sign the lease on 7/28 (well, Charles does -- I'll be travelling still), and we... Today has been a weird day. Early this morning, my parents' home was burglarized, while we were all home asleep. Everyone is fine, if a little shaken. The guy took a couple of random things, and tried to steal Bob's motorcycle. The newspaper delivery person saw him walking the bike down the hill and questioned him briefly, and then he called the police, who arrived to notify my parents of what had happened. None of this woke anyone up, so they woke to Maggie (Mom & Bob's spirited Sheltie) barking up a storm at the police car in our driveway.... Continue reading

First things first: happy birthday to my big sister, Heather! She's the best big sister in the world. Life has been busy here, but mostly with the usual stuff. I've been trying to plug away at the whole insurance issue, and we're making slow progress on it. What I can say is, we are all now insured. Not perfectly so, but at least we have coverage. Braychan is growing like crazy, still. He's up to about 20 pounds now! That's (more than) a 1000% gain since birth! Most kids are doing well if they triple their weight in their first... As the title acknowledges, I have been truant from my blog for far too long, and you, my fair readers, are due an update. It has definitely been busy. I have decided to remove the last post that I wrote, which was about my "insurance issue." Here's what I will say: we are still without insurance for now, we are hoping to be covered soon, and there is some pending legal stuff that made it seem like a bad idea to keep the previous post up. If you want to know more, I'm happy to share, but I will have... Continue reading

Congratulations, Braychan!! He finally made it onto the growth curve for his age! He is now 15 lb (3rd%), 26 in (3rd%), and his head is 16.5 in (5th%)! Just for comparison, he was 1lb 14 oz and 12 in at birth. He has literally doubled in length, and his weight has increased nearly 700%!! Way to go, hungry baby! Continue reading

Things have finally begun to slow down a bit here! Most importantly, Braychan is feeling much better. His cough is finally gone completely, and though he is still up on his oxygen, we're preparing to wean him back down. Things got a little scary for us for a while there...Two days after he was sent home, I took him back to the hospital because his symptoms had gotten so much worse. They kept us overnight and gave him steroids (to help open up his lungs more), and he started to turn around a bit. Then about a week later we... Continue reading

Yes, it's true. We're back at the hospital, but I am certain that this visit will not be for long. On Tuesday (1/26), I took Braychan in to the doctor because i was a little worried about him: he was wheezing a little, and he had a troublesome cough that was on-and-off. The doc gave him a nebulizer treatment and turned up his oxygen, and they monitored him for a while before deciding that we needed to go to the hospital for more observation. It was unclear whether we would be admitted at that point, so they sent us to... Continue reading

I realize that it has been an incredibly long time since I've updated, and it isn't necessarily because nothing has been happening. I've posted some pictures here and there, but I honestly haven't had a moment to think, let alone write about said thoughts! Early in December, Braychan was diagnosed with reflux, but luckily it is a mild enough case that it is easily managed with medication that we give twice daily. Some reflux babies have it way worse, though when he was hurting it was hard to believe that anyone had it harder than we did! He was only... Continue reading

He wasn't exactly thrilled about meeting the guy, as you can see, but we had a great time on our Hodgson Family Outing. The four of us went and made a (half) day of it - Bass Pro Shops had a free picture with Santa thing going on, and the we spent a while enjoying the sights in the (massive) store. There's a fish restaurant in the store, so we had lunch there. Cole had alligator! And he was a perfect gentleman the entire time. A full report on Christmas is on the way! Much love! Whew, we sure have been busy! Braychan is doing well overall, though he seems to have plateaued a bit for now. His vitals are rather stable, but he isn't making the kinds of improvements that the doctors want to see (gaining weight more rapidly, heart rate slightly decreasing, oxygen need decreasing, and some other details), and his heart has not changed since the last echo. I'm going to back up for a minute to refresh you on the whole PDA thing, because it is a bit complicated, and it's important to know about, to understand the rest of what I'll... Continue reading
