How fun. I live in Black Mountain, and it is so beautiful here right now.

What a gift last evening was! A teeny tiny pause in the rain, so perfectly timed right before I leave early this morning for a trip. It was just the window of sunshine, promise and hope that I needed and most especially, the perfect moment in which I could get the peas all planted. The n...
Oh, how fun. This is my last issue of my two year subscription, and I enjoy them so much. The maypole article made me weep...it was so touching.
Issue 21::WEAVE
This issue! Oh goodness, Issue 21::WEAVE is just plain awesome, I'm not even going to try to be subtle about that belief. The first issue of our sixth year, with the first of our 2017 covers by Lisa Congdon leading the way with such bright joy. (Truly, for month...
Thank you for this. I am walking the line as well with my homeschooled children--dragging them along to Indivisible Meetings and meetings at our church for undocumented immigrants and their legal rights (all in Spanish, which we don't speak). My oldest is ten and a voracious reader...and is quite concerned. I don't want my kids to bear too much, but I can't sit this one out. I hope they remember that we didn't just stand by, but I do believe in the innocence of childhood. I am very, very much appreciating hearing about how you are navigating these new times as a creative person trying to live a simple life. I have long been inspired by your blog and am so grateful that you are not just showing the pretty pictures but sharing this story.

"Give Love" Annabel's sign read for the march we attended last week. Those are glitter-covered bunny ears on her sign, for no other reason than glitter covered bunny ears belong wherever you can find a place for them, right? Why not. This photo was taken about twenty minutes after that swe...
I religiously read your blog here in Western North Carolina, and really enjoy it, but rarely comment. I am now because I really feel what you are saying about the many changes facing us, and how distressing some of it is but also so exciting to be called to step up and be involved more, because we have to be. Thank you for sharing bits of your thoughtful life and self here.

Sometimes, as the days fill up and I try to recollect the many things that happened in a particular day, or in this case - a long weekend, it all begins to blur and I can't quite remember just what it is we've been doing. Do you know that feeling? So full the days become, that it's i...
The lunches. It's terrible. I sometimes think that is why I homeschool--so I don't have to pack lunches every morning.
off to camp
A rather dramatic and intense reading choice, don't you think? Especially for a girl who is SO excited to be away from home. Hmn. But one who also loves a bit of theatrics and really digs a good true story so yes, perhaps this IS a good summer camp reading choice. (We LOVE the Dear America ser...
I love Lavender Blue. We would love a second grade curriculum!

Should I even tell you that we are having kind of a cold spring here in the mountains? (And that it does not get as hot here as it does in Boston?) I love the Botanical Gardens. Glad you are having fun.
Postcards from North Carolina: Asheville Botanical Gardens
One of the greatest pleasures of this trip has been jumping ahead in time, so to speak, on the spring season. At home, we had just barely watched the last of the snow in the woods melt. Garden season seemed a far way off yet. But here, we are seeing plant color and fu...
Oh, I never comment but read your blog pretty religiously. My oldest is nearly ten, and I am enjoying her now so much. She and Adelaide would get on famously, I expect. Anyway, I love seeing your pictures of my sweet little town--and its wonderful spot, favorites of ours. Have fun.
Postcards from North Carolina: Black Mountain & Montreat
(The wonderful Black Mountain Yarn Shop, Dobra Tea, Roots and Fruits Market, Robert Lake Park in Montreat. The last two photos are from downtown Asheville.) There's a special kind of magic that comes at this precious age of ten or so, and I am enjoying soaking it up fully with my...
I have a girl and two little boys too. It has taken me a long time to understand that little boys just play differently. I love it.
rewind ~ august (part III :: celebrating)
When I was little, August was my favourite time of the year because it was my birthday month. August had its own glow to stand out from the other eleven months...I sort of marked my own calendar based on how many months until August. Some things change when you age, but I still favour August...
Fun! The last time I was in the library, there was a note attached to my card--could you please ask Grace to not return the library books so dirty. Awesome. So, yes, we travel with library books...
highlights of a camping weekend
Last weekend we packed up the Big White Van, and met up with some friends for a weekend of camping in the Smokies. Here are some highlights from our trip ~ Reading library books in the forest. Surely, we aren't the only ones who travel with library books, right? Right? The smiles on the fa...
I love the princess playing in dirt. We live near you and Amanda of Sweetpotatoclaire said I should talk to you about how you protect your birds in the woods. Also, where did you get your compost?
signs of spring
Even though we woke to frigid temperatures again this morning, spring is on the way. Can you feel it, too? The light is changing, the song birds are back en masse, and it feels like the forest is on the verge of a magical upheaval, casting away frozen layers for the upcoming Great Spring Thaw. S...
No, now I can't. Or maybe I was just confused. Though I am sad to see them go, I totally understand. Hope things are going well, and look forward to your posts when you can!
from me to you, dear mama
These past several months, I have found that life has filled up with so much acitivity and busy-ness that my time here has dwindled. I feel far busier than ever homeschooling three kids, often while my husband is away for work. We have a small farm and big gardens. Our kids are busy liv...
Hi. I do love to read your blog--I am a homeschooling mother in the Western North Carolina Mountains--my children are of ages with yours, and I get inspired from your blog. How totally horrifying to discover that pictures of your sweet children were used so nefariously. Selfishly, I hope you keep blogging, but I understand either way. I did want to mention that I haven't had trouble viewing your old posts, so I don't know if the private setting is working. Anyway, thank you for posting. I did keep a blog for a while, but I couldn't manage to keep it up. I am impressed with all you do.
