Yes - I too have those chopsticks from when you toured abroad in Japan...
Man, I love me some Local Natives. I really want to check out new covers or something though. These new, temporary arrangements are great, but come on -- new songs! Please! Local Natives / A take Away Show @ Route du Rock Hiver 2010 from Watch Your Steps on Vimeo. Continue reading

Lend me your eyes - I can change what you see
Finally got around to checking out Mumford & Sons. Some call it folk rock music. I can see that... It sure has some banjo on it. Some pretty and poetic bits sprinkled all about as well. The lead singers voice was growing on me until someone just mentioned that he sounds a bit like Dave Matthews. *Audio: Slide whistle fall* Anyway - very worthwhile stuff as long as you can wash the DMB comment out of your ears. Best Music Video of 2010 - International Edition
This is without a doubt, the best music video I've seen all year. Not only is the song infectiously fun, the video is amazingly surreal -- not to mention -- not so safe for work. Carl Sagan, look what you've done! You inspired something, sir. I hope you are proud of yourself. I would be... And the winner for Best Music Video of 2010 is... El Guincho "Bombay" Continue reading

It's okay because he's Italian...
Ever wonder what a desperate attempt to represent Italians in the Christmas TV specials / song traditions of the world would sound like? Behold! Dominick The Italian Christmas Donkey Continue reading

Two other bits:
1) The recording of "please turn off your Cellphone announcement" started to play again during The National Anthem.
2) The stage and lighting direction was sometimes really great and sometimes very odd. Hard spotlights were distracting.
I must really say overall though - a pretty fun new opera.
LA Opera certainly has figured out that people want good coffee. SF Opera serves 50s style weak coffee-colored water. Whoever makes it there must not be a coffee drinker at all.
World Premiere of Il Postino at LA Opera
* Notes * The Los Angeles Opera 2010-2011 season opened with the world premiere of Daniel Catán's Il Postino. The music is lush and ornate, has soaring lyrical lines, and is pretty enough to not scare those wary of new music. Though the action takes place in Italy, and the title is Italian, th...

Neil Fraudstrong walking on me face
If you ever wanted to know what an awesome YouTube channel looks like... you should go here. What an amazing John Lennon collection. Holy obsession. What a remarkable set of obscure home records, interviews, performances, etc. Just fantastic. I've been sifting through his home demos, and must say - it's amazing to get such a intimate view of this seminal artist and his life. Hell - he has the full Rolling Stone interview after The Beatles broke up. He's got loads on stuff. It's overwhelming and beautiful. It's gems like these and collectors like Neil who make me super grateful that the internet exists. Mr. Neil Fraudstrong - we salute you! Continue reading

What Are You Looking At?
Oh... my blog. (Ahem) Welcome to the brand new home of my ridiculous blog! If you've never been here before - please do take a look around. Here lies a collection of music, web videos and random thoughts / web commentary. If you've been here before and were expecting a NEW blog well just because I have somewhat fancier new digs doesn't mean that all that much has changed. I've been busy. More newness soon. In the meantime... "Give Yourself A Little Cuddle" ...and by that I mean hit play on the Elvis... oh forget it. *Sigh* Continue reading
