In most other academic professions, if someone consistently says outrageous things that flies in the face of all evidence or reason, they get ostracized or kicked out of the profession. An extreme example would be Holocaust deniers in my field, history. It amazes me how in economics, people like Murphy, Kevin Hassett, etc. continue to have some kind of say or platform.
