For a while now I've been thinking that I need to be a bit more professional about my blog and have links to my designs for sale and what not .... Then along came a wonderful lady called Amy whom I met on Plurk who offered to set me up on Wordpress with my own domain and cart n ... well everything! We are not completely there yet - but she has managed to get the blogs exported and ready to go so I am biting the bullet and letting you all know that I'm moving you will find Guernseygal... "The time has come the Walrus said to talk of many things......" A quote many of you may recognise as being from Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll Why may you ask am I quoting classics at you? You may ( ask that is) I'm in the midst of designing a sock, for the Unique Sheep, for their newest club Wonderland Obviously I can't say too much or it would spoil the surprise - but suffice it to say I'm having a ball :-) The yarn is scrummy and one of my favourite colours and it is absolutely just... Not the post I was going to write, but I'm just back from a trip to A & E. You would never believe I used to be a dancer, I tripped over my own feet coming up the garden steps... Continue reading

I upgraded my PC to Windows 7 this week - it's a pretty nifty OS really. The only program I'm running that is having any issues at all is my charting software. It won't let me Save As and to export the chart I have to export to clipboard, but it's not the end of the world and hopefully the software team will be bringing out an upgrade at sometime in the future :-) One of the nifty little tools is something called Sticky notes and I have started to use them to write notes to myself about current design... Last week I couldn't think of anything to write, this week I'm not quite sure where to start! Earlier this week I upgraded my laptop to Windows 7. I backed up everything ( twice) in case of problems, made lists of all the software I have on the machine ( just in case) and then crossed my fingers and put in the DVD. As I work in IT as my day job, I am well aware of the problems that upgrading can bring, but was pleasantly surprised that despite taking twice as long as advertised, the upgrade went completely fine.... Or more accurately test knitting. The pattern for Moonfleet is finalised and it with all my test knitters. I'm not taking any chances this time and I have at least three other people test knitting the pattern as well as myself and once I have their observations I will also send the pattern off to my trusty tech editor to look it over for anything we may have missed. It is wonderful reading all the posts on the Ravelry group where knitters are deliberating about colours and beads for their versions :-) Here's mine. Unique Sheep Eos ( 50% silk/50%... TEW is finished! I can't believe it - it has gone so quick! 6 weeks of clues and everyone is well on their way to completing or has already completed their shawls. This is mine Jack's Beach on Green Sheep Fingering with Aqua lined crystal megatamas, silver lined crystal no 6 seed beads and gold lined crystal seed beads ( I changed colours as I moved into the beige) The was a lot of discussion about the size of the clues in TEW and the fact that clue 2 was a monster clue and almost put a few people off.... Sounds interesting huh? Well.... a few months ago the Sock Wars people put out a call for submissions. They were looking for all sorts of types of sock, but this year they has a new sub competition Iron Knitter scroll down and have a read - I'll still be here when you get back :-) Sooo. I had this idea for a sock , with not one, but two lace patterns and a few baby cables thrown in for fun. Challenging? Not really, the two lace patterns have different numbers of rows, and one of them the stitch count varies... Continue reading

Sorry to have been away so long, but I have been busy with a capital B As many of you will know the KAL for my latest mystery shawl - The Enchanted Wood started a few weeks ago. There have been a few problems. Most of these have been of my own making and are extremely embarrassing, but I have learned quite a few lessons that I would like to share with you. After you have designed your garment, write the whole pattern out as if it was going to the customer before you send it to your test knitter... Continue reading

After many years of blogging my knitting on the web, the time has come I feel to separate my personal knitting from my design knitting. It isn't that I want to distance them from each other, but more that I want somewhere to showcase my designing that is apart form my everyday musings and meanderings. And so this new blog has been born. And at such a busy time! Last week saw the launch of my latest collaboration with The Unique Sheep The Enchanted Wood Shawl ( Ravlery link) This is another Mystery KAL hot on the heels of The... Continue reading
