Honey, who shrunk the Satellit 700?!
Pablo Recommends the Meloson M7 Radio with MP3
Regarding the Meloson M7 http://herculodge.typepad.com/herculodge/2012/08/owl-recommends-the-melosom-m7-fmam-mp3wma-radio.html is now available on ebay thru KaitoUSA http://www.ebay.com/itm/Meloson-M7-Rechargeable-MP3-Player-DSP-AM-FM-Radio-/251180877294?pt=Other_MP3_Players&hash=item3a7b8c05ee...
In the original NPR Car Talk story it was mentioned that the reason for the re-runs is that Tom and Ray are retiring, after something like 3000 episodes! The producers plan to rearrange the car questions/answers from different shows and recombine them. This will give a semblance of variety.
I guess you can't blame two successful radio show hosts for retiring.
Who in the Hell Wants to Hear Car Talk Repeats?
I loved Car Talk and appreciate its long run, but I have disdain for NPR stations that decide to take up program space with Car Talk repeats. Am I missing something?

Ken Reviews the Sangean DAR 101 Portable MP3 Recorder Radio
A couple of months ago one or two of your readers mentioned the Sangean DAR-101 portable mp3 recorder. I didn't even know such a thing was on the market but I promptly ordered one from Amazon, so thanks to all. It fits a niche. Here's my review. Bottom line, it does all it's supposed to do,...
There's a whole series of similar Sony radios like the SRF-T615. some of the models are Sony SRF-R431, SRF-R600V, SRF-R633V, and SRF-R433.
They can be purchased through www.jauce.com (Japan Auction Center). It is an Ebay-like site, but Jauce purchases the item for you for a fee, and ships it from Japan to you.
Has Anyone Tested the Panasonic RF-ND180RA Portable Radio? Better Than the Sony SRFT 615?
Harry writes: Has anyone commented on the performance of the Panasonic RF-ND180RA (ebay 290693948490)? Looks very much like the Sony SRF T615 and about $20 less expensive. It also ships from Japan like the T615. Jerry responds: Just received one of these fro Japan. Have not yet put it thro...
Bigapple59 is a super Ebay seller and radio hobbyist. I've sold him a radio and some radio books he's kept for his own use; the susequent email exchanges have been interesting and pleasant.
I recommend adding him to your "Favorite Sellers" list on Ebay. He finds some very high quality used receivers, and researches and writes their descriptions with flair. I like to regularly check what he's offering, just to read his interesting auction copy and see the clear photos of nice rigs.
It's Time to Get Out Your Check Book and Get a Real Radio, the Sony CRF-330
Bragging rights for a real manly radio don't come cheap. It will cost you $2,195 plus $88.81 shipping to acquire this black military style Sony CRF-330. You know it's worth it.
This is an excellent tip, Dan! I've used clay bars on my cars' finishes for years but never thought of trying it on radio cabinets.
Another useful product for cleaning up grungy receivers is "Magic Eraser" pads from Mr. Clean. There are also generic versions of these in the stores and both seem to work identically. There are no abrasives or cleaning chemicals in the sponge-like pads, but like the clay bar treatment they lift out dirt and grime from surfaces. Be gentle when scrubbing though, because on some surfaces the Magic Erasers can very slightly change the shine or reflection from smooth surfaces. I think it is safer to use the pads on any finish that has a texture to it.
Dan's Radio Restoration Tips
Here's a radio restoration tip you may want to share with my fellow Herculodge readers. I've attached a couple of photos, too. During cosmetic restoration of several vintage Panasonic radios, I noticed that the anodized-aluminum parts were often tinged with 30+ years of embedded dirt. Scrub...
