I really do not care for what the Rose Festival has become. The magic and fun is gone. As a child I remember a Rose Festival Queen and her court of Princesses. The Queen wore a beautiful white gown and her princesses wore the evening dresses they wore during the Queen Selection and Cornonation. The Queen selection was chosen the first day of the festival to kick off the 10 days of fun and excitement. The Queen reigned over all parades and festivities, which made it special and magical. I remember during the 1960's when the Rose Festival Fun Center used to be in the Lloyd Center parking lot. It was really nice, cause all the rides were on cement, so there was no mud to mess with. Then after we rode all the rides, my parents would take us to shop in the stores at Lloyd Center and then we always stopped at Morrow's Nut House to get a caramel apple. Those were the good old days. The Rose Festival Floats were on display at Lloyd Center also, right after the parade through Sunday. Continue reading
