Great release, looking forward to put in in production next week!
I've found some confusing parts in the docs though:
Is the 'Upgrading to Catalyst TBA' in the Upgrading doc a missed replacement before the version was released as 5.90040?
The 'Regex dispatch type is deprecated.' is in the 'Upgrading to 5.9' section although it hasn't been removed until 5.90030.
New Catalyst Release on CPAN! Support for Websockets, Event Loops and More!
Hey Catalyst Developers! New version of Catalyst in the wild, check it out over at the usual place: https://metacpan.org/source/JJNAPIORK/Catalyst-Runtime-5.90040 There's some bigger changes in this release, here's the highlights: Unicode support baked in. Previously Catalyst required you to i...
I had to get used to dzil when I got involved into DBIC::API.
Newer dzil versions added commands like authordeps that make installing the required modules a breeze.
It took me about a day to find the plugins, mostly testing ones, to make it even more useful for our in-house modules.
I don't like the idea of bundles that much because a change to them might break the build process of any module using it.
When I find a new useful plugin I add it to my modules one after the other and verify that it works.
Lately I had to install three author-only requirements for a Module::Install based module one after the other by hand because M::I only reports the first missing module on failure. That clearly showed that contributing to a dzil based module might even be easier!
To dzil or not to dzil...?
That is the Question! I've wanted to like Dist::Zilla for a long time since I generally agree with the idea that the developer dependencies and management should be cleanly separated from the user installation experience. Where I've felt let down by dzil in the past is the size of the installat...
Nice work!
I saw that Apollo Domain/OS is listed twice on the ports page.
Big CPAN.org update
CPAN has gotten its first real update in a while tonight; the content is from the cpanorg git repository. We tried to get the FAQ cleaned up a bit (though there's plenty of work left) and Leo Lapworth pretty heroically also did a first pass on cleaning up the ports page. You might also notice ...
When looking at the official perl website: http://www.perl.org/get.html 'Included' might suggest to use the Perl shipping with the OS...
I'm using perlbrew since about a year on my notebook and dev box and will use it for future installations and migrations as soon as Debian 6 ships.
Just a quick overview about the Perl versions included in the distros we use (Debian) and consider (RHEL, because our Linux team prefers it):
Debian 4: 5.8.8
Debian 5: 5.10.0 (with the important 5.10.1 fixes backported)
Debian 6: 5.10.1 (unreleased, thats the current one)
RHEL 3: 5.8.0 (Unicode broken)
RHEL 4: 5.8.5
RHEL 5: 5.8.8
RHEL 6: 5.10.1
This is also a great place to find an overview: http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=redhat
