Hathaway Design: Live Event Production and Technical Management
Recent Activity
The long and winding road. I've been involved in live events in one form or another for 24 years now. I started in community theaters, moved into concerts and touring, worked on television and film projects, corporate meetings, huge parties, and lately... museum exhibits. The bridge between contracting and entertainment just keeps getting shorter. I am grateful for the many opportunities that I have had to combine my experiences and talents in the two worlds and the fascinating projects that have come from them. I think it is time to update my portfolio a bit here, to share some of the amazing adventures that I have been a part of. Continue reading

I have been pursuing some exciting opportunities that I have been passionate about for a long time, but never thought I would have the chance to go after. It is very exciting to Dream about the possibilities, no matter how the odds may stack up. However it ends, I already feel satisfaction from going for it. Continue reading

I've been going through some installation photos and I realize that I don't get the pictures posted as often as I like. They're rough, and mostly from my panasonic point and shoot, but I think it will be fun. in no particular order: My good friend and part time sparky Richie Merrit helping button up a patio fixture in Westlake Village. a little kitchen pendant action in Palm Springs A couple of sub-panel prep outs durring rough in of a custom home in Oak Hills, CA. sometimes a small adjustment is needed. ...yes the hole was patched. Big TV hang. Before everything was light as a feather. This may have been one of the first 65" displays we mounted. It was on a multi-axis arm, and it weighed... a lot more than they do now. you can see the small... Continue reading

Chrome. Windows 8. Amazing new uses and applications. I've had Chrome installed almost since the first day of release, however until recently I have less often used it as my primary browser... Until I looked through the Chrome Web Store. Wow. this has transformed the internet experience. ...And as for Win 8... I know that it is just in preview at the moment for most of us, but the promise is, well, promising! they have thrown out the old image of the operating system and engineered a touchy interactive future. Tablet in mind architecture that will look familiar to anyone with an Xbox or MediaCenter, but refined and functional as an OS. I like that they have upped the hardware spec to "ensure a consistent user experience". Here's to our future ! Continue reading

It's the little things that you do everyday that make the difference. I realize I have failed to do a couple of the small things for a little while. Finding a balance is sometimes difficult, but necessary for long term growth and success. I will do better. Continue reading

I've been using a product line for a while that I'd like to share with you, because time and time again they are a real solution provider. Simply Automated is a manufacturer of Universal Powerline Bus (UPB) devices. They have a well developed line of products for this category and I find myself using their products on more and more installations. UPB is a great retrofit approach to lighting control and additions. A controller switch can be located anywhere that there is power, whether it is an existing wall switch or even just an outlet. On a recent lighting project, my customer requested that 3 lights on 2 separate buildings be controlled from one switch location. To further complicate this request, she asked that each light be individually switchable independent of the others. Without batting an eye I knew instantly... Continue reading

I got to dust off and use my E-size plotter for official job related printing! Usually drawings have been provided to me by a GC of event producer, but the owner sent me drawings directly to print.
