A wonderful post. As both an African-American and a gay male, Brown has plenty of reason to have had his soul invaded by hatred and allowed more of that emotion to incubate therein. But instead, he chooses to confront the anger he has caused in others. And from this the poem springs: not only is the world not our own and much more, not ourselves, and hard it is in spite of blazoned days, but to muddle together two poets who probably wouldn't have liked each other, as is my wont, poetry comes from internal arguments, not with those we have with others. I.e., it's the empathy, stupid. Thank you Tracy, thank you Jericho.
