Dusty Baker is not a "former Cubs left fielder". He never played for the Cubs, he managed them. Bad fact checking.
I don't think the names being thrown around make a lot of sense for the Padres. Perkins, Lewis, and Frandsen each have more major league service time than the Padres should be looking for, and none of them are really prospects. But forget the prospect part, I would expect the Padres to deal Kouzmanoff for 2-3 guys who have only tasted the big leagues, at best. Then they can control them for 5-6 seasons instead of only another 2.
Cedeno is awful and has rocks for brains. I wouldn't be surprised if he's non-tendered now that Crosby is on board.
They should have offered arb to Hudson because any raise he could have won would be based on his 2009 lowball salary. Just another GM who doesn't understand how the system works, ala Jim Hendry.
I think 2 years/19 million is considerably less than Boros has hinted he wants for Damon. The Yankees would probably see that as an acceptable amount, other teams aren't very likely to pay all these 35 year olds with declining defensive skills anywhere near that. I can see a lot of 1 year deals on the cheap for a bunch of these guys once they realize there are only 5 chairs and 23 people playing duck duck goose.
