A comment from pgoe above, in 2013, encouraged APA to revisit the decision to require sentence case in light of the inability of automated citation generators (like those in reference managers or databases) to recognize appropriate exceptions to the sentence case rule. I agree strongly. It's impossible for an automated system to correctly identify names and proper nouns in titles, as they can take the form of brands or surnames that are otherwise defined as non-proper nouns in dictionaries. Switching to title case eliminates this problem, and will save time for authors, editors, educators, and students. A colleague attending the Charleston conference today said that an APA representative there recommended that the APA Style blog be used as a vehicle for suggestions on revision of the standard. So there we are!
