Did he really use a quote from a GAME in his argument?
Feng Shui Hooey
From this thread at JREF I learned of a recent post at a blog called Fengshui Forward (“We aim to gather fellow Chinese Metaphysics enthusiatics to discuss and promote Chinese 5 arts”), entitled United we stand, Divided we fall!. The author, ken, is bothered by the Penn & Teller Bullshit episod...
So sorry to hear. My wife fell off a ladder 2 weeks ago. broken wrist (with an awesome terminator gadget on it) and 3 cracked ribs, so she really sympathized. Good thing the Olympics are on or you might succumb to the dreaded Oprah!
pour it in my hand for a dime
I woke up this morning and for the first time since I provided experimental proof of the First Law of Motion, I wasn't in any pain or discomfort. "Oh good," I thought, "Things are looking up! Maybe I won't have to load myself up with stupid painkillers today!" I got out of bed, grabbed a cup ...

In the paper this morning was the article that "scientist now concede that 20-40% of all known species could go extinct...mountain goats that live in high mountains will lose their habitat and are likely to go extinct...the warmer weather already may be affecting diseases, which could be moving north into new habitat now warm enough to let them thrive. A parasitic brain worm is killing moose in Minnesota. West Nile virus, carried by mosquitoes has moved west and north to threaten sage grouse and kill people."
interestingly, the article talked about how people must start looking at the big picture. For example, removing dams to enable salmon to thrive typically means replacing the dams power with sources more damaging to the environment.
i think the planet is trying to tell us something . . .
North Pole ice 'may disappear by September' Arctic sea ice is now retreating so quickly that scientists say there is now a 50-50 chance that it will have gone completely by September. [...] The Arctic is seen as an important indicator of the potentially catastrophic changes that scientists say...

The problem with your scenario about "the senator" is that a large percentage of the country (possibly a majority) believe that the wiretapping was a good thing and that giving them amnesty is a no-brainer. "If it stops one terrorist then it is worth it" is the justification, and any senator seriously committed to reaching the White House will not antagonize that group of voters by taking an extreme stand.
moon over a ruined castle
You know you've spent a little too much time on the Internet when you're in Maui, taking pictures of a beautiful Sea Turtle, and the first thing you think is, "Oh man, I can't wait to LOLCat this when I get home!" This, my friends, is how my damaged brain works. I'm still on island time, both l...

What a great quote about Hillary!
Your comments about Nixon and Clinton were right on. It is quite telling how swiftly the moral fabric of our country has gone downhill. Something like what Dubya has done to this country would have been unthinkable 20 years ago. On the other hand, my wife says "its worth it if it catches one terrorist" so a lot of people think we are doing the right thing.
remember...

monday brain scrapings
Scraping out the brain again, here's what I found: I scored 100% on the Atari Quiz at mental_floss. Go me. Some company called Schmap wants to use one of my pictures from Montreal in one of their travel guides. They say that they don't pay for the pictures, because they give the guides away. How...
