Thank You David!
By Michael Bryan I think I can safely speak for the entire staff and readership of BlogForArizona when I say "Thank you!" to David Safier for his last 6 years of hard work, and the fun and satisfaction we have all derived from David's efforts. We are all looking forward to his continuing contri...
If forest fire protection has been cut too far what is keeping the State of Arizona or Yavapai county from purchasing, contracting for or goosing the revenue of the program that pays for forest fire protection? If the federal government is short a hundred million or two then I would suggest that McCain and Flake (and President Barack Obama) declare that it is past time to end the US government give away of hundreds of millions of dollars in tanks and jet planes (and other military aid) to Egypt (each and every year).
Signed,

'The State Department has refused to cancel or delay the delivery of several American-made F-16 fighter jets to Egypt, claiming that the arms deal serves America’s “regional security interests,” according to an official State Department document obtained by the Free Beacon.'
Still think the GOP Sequester does no harm?
Posted by AzBlueMeanie: Senator John McCain, in a rare moment of candor, gives some "straight talk" on the effects of the GOP Sequester. Prescott's The Daily Courier reports, U.S. senators visit firefighters' families; Biden coming Tuesday: [Sens.] McCain and Flake expressed concerns about $115 ...

Google Is Killing Google Reader as of July 1: Now What?
by Pamela Powers Hannley Corporate giants work in mysterious ways. A case in point is Google's decision to abruptly end its popular Google Reader service, which allows users to get "feeds" from their favorite blogs. Blog for Arizona has almost 900 followers. (Hey, thanks!) The problem is that...
I went to the event at the county board of supervisors building Thursday as well as the followup party at the Respect Arizona office. I was very impressed by the passion of my fellow supporters who were actively gathering signatures up until 4:00 PM. I am very happy that everybody involved took on Sheriff Joe Arpaio as even having the opportunity to write your signature on a recall petition is an opportunity to let Mr. Apraio know that there are hundreds of thousands of people that are unhappy with the job he is (not) doing.

Random Thoughts On the Arpaio Recall
Posted by Bob Lord Sorry, but this may be a bit stream of consciousness. Everything relates to the now unsuccessful Arpaio recall effort, but the thoughts otherwise may be unconnected. First, was it a wasted effort? Absolutely not. Thousands of new voters were identified and registered. The data...
It will certainly be a far less interesting campaign without Hooshang Amirahmadi as a candidate.

Rutgers professor ends bid to become president of Iran
By Karl Reiner Dr. Hooshang Amirahmadi has halted his campaign to become president of Iran. The Guardian Council, the theocratic body that vets candidates, has announced its selections. It has approved eight conservative men to be candidates in Iran's June 14 election. It appears that all th...
Given that Arizona voters have legalized medical marijuana in Arizona, thereby ignoring a federal law that "it doesn't like" I don't see how ignoring a few more (or a lot more) federal laws is likely to cause a neo-secessionist crisis. If the federal government stuck to regulating what it is charged with regulating the people of the various states wouldn't be motivated to take steps to ignore federal laws.

As for impeaching Tom Horne I think that would be a wonderful thing to see. I think the odds of Horne being removed from office as a result are very-very low and that such an action could possibly work to his benefit but it would give the TV stations something good to cover for a few hours each day so hey, why not?

Arizona Legislature: The coming week
By Craig McDermott, cross-posted from Random Musings As with the previous few weeks, there just isn't much on the schedule - - Tuesday's House COW (Committee of the Whole) calendar is here. Two bills on the agenda, and one of them is a neo-secessionist special: SCR1016, a proposed amendment t...
"Longterm, we need a ballot measure to repeal Prop. 108 (1992)"
That would certainly be an interesting event. I would love to see what groups would fund such a measure, thereby stating publicly that they think it is too hard to raise taxes on the rich and the poor of Arizona. Shoot, I imagine you might even get Jan Brewer to drop a $20 bill to fund the effort.

Robert Robb is right: refer a clean Medicaid (AHCCCS) restoration bill to the voters
Posted by AzBlueMeanie: I hate it when I have to agree with the Arizona Republic's über-conservative columnist Robert Robb, but even a broken clock is right twice a day, am I right? Keep in mind that this latest column from Robert Robb is actually the strategy for a legal challenge to Governor J...
It is tough to have any faith in elected officals who believe that eliminating waste, fraud and abuse is going to accomplish anything that isn't already being accomplished. Do the folks that implement government program X, Y and Z start out authorizing waste, fraud and abuse and think that just because they add an after the fact addedum saying "Oh yea, waste, fraud and abuse are prohibited".
So the 31st time is the charm?
Posted by AzBlueMeanie: Remember when the TanMan, Weeper of the House John Boehner, said the GOP agenda was "jobs, jobs, jobs"? Yeah, he lied. Since Tea-Publicans took control of Congress, the only votes they take are related to restrictions on contraception and abortion, and repealing the Affor...
Do you know if Krugman plans to do a post on the http://KrugmanDebate.com challenge?
Krugman takes on ALEC
by David Safier Paul Krugman's column, Lobbyists, Guns and Money, doesn't cover new ground in its discussion of ALEC's role in the conservative push for privatization and other corporate-backed agendas. But it performs a great service. It puts ALEC front and center in a well respected, syndicate...
A hoodie is a poor choice in rain gear if you want to avoid negative attention. If you want to avoid negative attention wear an orange rain jacket and an orange rain hat.
Nobody said it didn't serve a functional purpose against rain.
Trayvon Martin and Conversations About Race
When Geraldo Rivera suggested that George Zimmerman was as focused on Travyvon Martin's hoodie as his skin color, people shrieked. I shrugged my shoulders. Although I'm white as snow, I wear hoodies with the hoods up. Growing up, teachers would call me a "hood." My dad would get pissed at me for...

SNL: The Marriott TV Channel GOP debate

Florida issues concealed weapons permits to out-of-staters
by David Safier I honestly didn't think this was possible. People in other states can get Florida concealed weapons permits by mail: Among the 853,272 concealed weapons permits Florida had issued as of Aug. 31, more than 95,000 were mail-order permits sent to non-Florida residents. All it took w...

I am all in favor of Truth, Justice and the American Way. However the Obama jobs bill seems to propose yet more government spending and $10 billion dollars more in government borrowing. I would suggest that should the Democratic Party actually want to pass the various provisions that it split the bill up into the various proposed projects thereby allowing Congress and We the People to pass what is good and reject that which is bad. Of course it isn't up to me but I am far more interested in getting an audit of the Federal Reserve via HR 459 than advocating for S 1549.

I called Mr. Pastor today to ask him to support HR 459.

Obama picking up "American Dream" theme
by David Safier It looks like "The American Dream" is going to be part of Obama's campaign. "I don't mind - I'm used to being an underdog," the president said in an interview with ABC News. "And I think that at the end of the day, though, what people are going to say is, who's got a vision for t...
