Amen! The translation of Passivhaus to Passive House is unfortunately misleading, as this approach applies just as well to commercial and multi-family buildings. Although the issues and solutions are often more complex than single-family homes, the opportunities are enormous and our efforts should be focused across building scales.
Thanks for the tour reminder Brian. Re: Hawthorne Park Studio Addition - "This project is all electric, with no fossil fuels used on-site within the addition." Can someone explain? This implies something very different than just grid-tied PV. Also, I think June Key is registered in the Living Building Challenge, but does not meet the requirements (yet). I sincerely hope they do make it, but I think they have a ways to go. On a side note, while I understand the glass was donated to the project, the extremely dark color is really unfortunate. I hope in the near future we can see more truly progressive and innovative green buildings on this tour. There are a number of passivhaus projects in town that are dramatically lowering energy consumption and provide real change. These are far more interesting and innovative than tankless water heaters, air to air heat pumps, and exposed concrete slabs. is now following The Typepad Team
