School for me?
Once, in a painting class, I had a teacher try to explain to me how I needed more contrast in my picture. I didn't really understand (I was 13 or 14 at the time). He reached over and dipped a... Continue reading

Make It Work
As the ever-inspirational Tim Gunn says... I've been gone a long time. Not impressed with my writing, with this blog, with my work. But I have carried on. I had a bit of a blow, professionally, this year, when I... Continue reading

Work and play
Dragonflies in Green on Brass by IntentionalStones on Etsy I wonder... If i made nothing but dragonflies, how would I do? I tend to be happiest when i am working whimsically. Probably, I could get lost in dragonflies for a... Continue reading

Because that salted caramel ice cream was unforgettable
Procrastibake My Way to Cake Pops
I don't procrastinate very much. I procrastibake. Sometimes the never ending task of laundry simply must be put aside for the day. Okay, several days. A week? We've all got enough underwear to last that long, right? I find the taller my launder pile is, the more inclined I a...
Scapolite Gemstone, my bead hunting story
According to the Book of Stones, Scapolite's good for problem solving, sticking to goals and achievements. It's a white, brown or purplish gemstone that occurs in limestone and metamorphic rocks. It is an "alteration" of feldspar minerals, meaning that the... Continue reading

Amanda F Palmer
Amanda Palmer (http://wikipedia.org/wiki/Amanda_Palmer ) has been on my mind a lot this week. It started with her amazing TED talk about asking for what you need. (http://www.ted.com/talks/amanda_palmer_the_art_of_asking.html) I just can't get it out of my head. In a short 13+... Continue reading

All You Need is Love
Art is love. I mean it, seriously. When I first started making things all the time, I would flit from craft to craft, to the point where any time someone wanted to do a project, i could very easily go... Continue reading

Inspiring Today
I think this winter time block is an annual thing. Something to do with the end of the sales season and the self examination involved in applications. So i am working on ways to reawaken my creativity. Today, I feel... Continue reading

A Renaissance
There we be, mine buddy AR and I at the Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival in Morelandshire (Westmoreland county). We combined forces to build a booth and everything! Needless to say, we're having a ball. It's like no other art or craft... Continue reading

It's all about me
Filigree in process. Sort of reminds me of my blog. Nitty gritty, unpolished, pretty darn fascinating. A friend pointed out that it is ridiculous to write a blog for any reason other than to amuse myself. She has a point.... Continue reading

Going Natural
"Everything is made of natural gemstones!" I say it in general when you first meet me. As a jewelry artist, I have to put a lot of trust in the people who mine and cut gemstones. At the moment, I... Continue reading

Thinking Thursday
Homeschooling is probably the largest part of my life, like it or not. Don't get me wrong, I deeply love having home schooled children! But school is not a cakewalk, even with three very bright kids. Maybe that makes it... Continue reading

New Sketching Habit
Free from expectation-that's what the morning pages have always been about. Work for long enough to scrub my brain of the bits of dreams or old feelings or doubts. In days past, I've tried to do the Morning Pages suggested... Continue reading

Thank you! I'm going to have to make the beads for the next one. It could be interesting...
Because I want to be more in touch
Life is overwhelming. Whose isn't? I promised writing today, here I am. It's the time of year for things to be waking up. The flowers, the birds and animals, me. This year I'm working much harder. Period I'm working to be more true to what I really want to be doing. Working in gemstone. ...
Coming to the end...
(This is another of those honest posts. If you want something cheerful, please go to the rest of this blog. I usually try to be more upbeat) Of the year. Of what? the expectation to grow the business AND homeschool... Continue reading

Thank you! It was a custom piece for a friend who dances with her snake. The snake herself is very inspiring.
Sketching with Beads and Metal
This piece is commissioned by a friend with the most gorgeous pet snake. It's kind of a difficult piece to fit and balance, so I made a mock-up to make sure it's comfortable. I'll post photos of the completed piece once she receives it. Meanwhile, I get to love his wee beady eyes
Trashy TV is speaking to me
Oh my goodness, I just turned on a painful episode of "Tabatha's Salon Takeover" and it's the tackiest place ever! This guy is falling into every trap I've seen. It's amazing how I can see this stuff applying to myself.... Continue reading

I'd love to make up a design for halloween! I love to make charm bracelets or simple pendant charms. Here's an entry containing a few. There are examples from a Christmas charm bracelet I made for a charity sale. http://intentional-stones.typepad.com/my_weblog/2009/11/charming.html
Which Halloween symbols are you most interested in? Traditional- such as cat, pumpkin, witch? or Samhain-orange/gold/black, Harvast and possibly a photo frame for pictures of your ancestors?
Please e-mail me at simbelmyne@intentional-stones.com I'd love to make something for you!
New Year 2011
Happy New Year! My post is a little late. Life has gotten in the way of blogging. Too many pieces to make, too much fun and family. I surely do not complain! As you can still see, time management is a new years resolution I still haven't conquered. I won't even make it. That would be unreali...
Networking networking networking.
The networking thing is kind of fun! It seems this year I need to work even harder on creating this kind of connection. Several of the art fairs in Pittsburgh seem to work through crafting and artists guilds. This is... Continue reading
