June 7, 2020 Trinity Sunday. This Is Good. Genesis 1: 1 - 2:4a In this, the first creation story of our scripture, the first words are often translated "in the beginning..." A better translation would be "in a beginning...." From the very first words of our holy book, we receive a reminder that we always have the chance to try again. One of the most enduring and astonishing promises of our faith is that we are made in God's image. If that is so , we are also creators. and, if the scripture to be believed, then we have the chance to begin and begin, over and over again. Use (the... Continue reading

Our God is with us when we mourn, and it is God who places within each of us the resurrection hope that we so need. God did not steal the lives of those soldiers who perished... Continue reading

Life can sometimes seem overwhelming. And the responsibilities of being a Christian can sometimes feel burdensome. But God has need for our success and sense of well being. For it is through us that, when we are willing to be a disciple of Jesus Christ and a servant of God, that His Will is done. When we seek communion with God through prayer we can trust God to send us His powerful energies to provide solace and comfort to help us through our heavy trials and our deepest pain. Nevertheless, we also understand that even though God may not answer our prayers exactly as we ask them, we know that... Continue reading

We are The United Church of Christ. What we believe is defined in our Statement of Faith. There have been three versions of the United Church of Christ Statement of Faith. The original version was written in 1957 and ratified by the unified General Synod in 1959. The second version--(adapted by Robert V. Moss) was written in 1976. A third version was written in the form of a doxology in 1981. The Statement of Faith has also been translated into Spanish. What we believe is defined by the 1976 version. We welcome all our neighbors and friends in Palmetto Bay, Pinecrest, Cutler Bay, Kendall, Perrine, Homestead, South Miami and Miami... Continue reading

Everyone is invited to share our gift of an 11-circuit Meditative Labyrinth. Our Labyrinth is one of many across the globe whose constructions follow the design of the famous Chartres Cathedral Labyrinth in Chartres, France. Located on the grounds of the church sanctuary at 14920 SW 67 Avenue, Palmetto Bay, Florida; the labyrinth is easily accessible from 67th avenue. The better entry is from the southern most driveway to the church campus. The labyrinth is free for members and non-members alike. The Labyrinth at Chartres, France dates back to 1205 when monks used it for serenity, prayer, and contemplation. The experience one receives from walking the labyrinth is a personal... In the approximately 5,000 churches across the United Church of Christ denomination, thousands of church members have been impacted in the past decade by the adult education curriculum , A Sacred Conversation on Race, which has had an immeasurable impact on many church members' thinking about race and white privilege. While the conversation continues, some are discovering that action can move their congregations beyond merely talking, and into action. Sacred Conversations to End Racism (SC2ER) is a restorative justice curriculum which builds on the work that has been done and takes it a step further under the guidance of trained facilitators. Unlike its predecessors, Sacred Conversations to End Racism is... Continue reading

This is the symbol of the United Church of Christ. More than a logo, our symbol imparts the meaning not only of all that we are in the present as a denomination, but all that we yearn to be in the future. At the top of the symbol is a crown. By the use of the crown, we remind ourselves that Christ is the ruler, the head of all, greater that any earthly power or authority. Below the crown is a cross. The cross reminds us of Christ's suffering in solidarity with the pain of victims of violence in all times and places. For many, the cross is a reminder... Continue reading

It is evident that life may be different after the Covid-19 pandemic. The congregation of Christ Congregational Church acknowledges that early on there may be changes in our church life. But the Coronavirus lock down has also shown is that we don't have to share the same space in the church sanctuary to worship God and commune in fellowship. The time we share in the Kelsey Building before service, during service in the sanctuary, and sharing refreshment after service in the Kelsey Building is an important part of communal fellowship for many of our members. For others, communal worship is enough and except for special celebrations, before service and after... Continue reading

In their support and adulation of Donald Trump Evangelicals and other professed Christians ignore the fact that their president spits rhetoric and exercises behavior that offends the God and The Christ they pretend to love and follow. But fundamentalists who proclaim The Bible is the Word Of God often bastardize The Bible to justify behavior that is antithetical to the God and The Christ they proclaim to love and pattern their lives after. These hypocritical fundamentalists, who swear that the Bible is "the word Of God", conveniently ignore the warning their Bible gives to those "vipers and hypocrites" who bastardize... Every concept or belief, whether brilliant or inane, has its antithesis. Every perceived "reality" is the anti-thesis of another perceived "reality" . The reality of an eternal hell of "fire and brimstone" for unrepentant souls is confronted by the antithesis that punishment by fire for a soul that is more spirit or energy than flesh and blood is absurd. The argumentative question would be: "how can there be punishment by fire for a soul devoid of flesh and blood and therefore devoid of the ability to feel pain? If the soul is not physical, how does fire punish the soul? Some... Continue reading

One of the identities of President Barack Obama is the profound love and admiration women have for him. The fact that our 44th President was smart, good looking, charismatic, trim, fit, intelligent, introspective, and possessed a sense of humor didn't hurt. But the quintessential reason so many women loved President Barack Obama is because women love men who love children; and Barack Obama loves children. This photographic walk down memory lane is a testament to that love. He demonstrated his love of children for all to see when he entered the White House. . Babies show love for Mr Obama...
