There were two types of kids in our high school. Kids that did drugs and kids that didn't (And it was probably 70-30 use drugs/ don't).
Not to put too fine a point on it but the terminology was "straight" and "not straight". Neither camp was "sober". I kinda remember the fade to "not straight" meaning gay... 1977 if I had to bet.
