Karma Rita Sherpa on the final steps of the Southeast Ridge Route on Everest, Nepal, May 18, 2002. Why am I here??? If I had a nickel for every time I've said that to myself on big expeditions, well, I'd have a lot more money to give to Water For... Continue reading

Charley Mace enjoying Butler Gulch. I've never liked training. Just ask my high school sports coaches, and they'll attest to that. Instead, I've always looked at it as funning...getting out doing activity A, B, or C because it's fun, it's what I enjoy, rather than it's simply something I have... Continue reading

It's been an amazing year, 2011. A year full of excitement, and rife with challenge; bubbling with anticipation and adventure while simultaneously stewing with stresses and angst. In those ways, I'd say 2011 was not unlike most years. But, most importantly, 2011 will go into the annals of my life... Continue reading

Ralph, thanks for your comment and the interesting post. I had heard about an old camera and film being discovered in the Arctic, but did not know the details. Thanks for sharing - it's always been my thought that, if found, the camera would hold many answers. Thanks again, and have a great day! -Jake

Hi Pete, Definitely well preserved! Same as all the other items I found in that camp, and the others (1924 camp 6, 1938 high camp, etc.). From my experience, everything above 8000 meters stays pretty well preserved. I wasn't aware that people are speculating about the condition of the camera. My hunch is that it'd be in good shape, with big question being, as always, if it was broken or not in a fall. Hope you are well!
Thanks Colin. Expensive biscuits for sure!
