Frequently Asked Questions about Yahoo's Acquisition of Tumblr
All of these questions are variations on "Why did Yahoo! spend one-third of their cash on hand to buy a company that by all accounts is about to run out of money?" Read this post, and hopefully these questions will not need to be asked again! Why did Yahoo! make this acquisition? We know very li...

TMBG is the Grateful Dead of Nerd Music.
The Roots are the Grateful Dead of Hip Hop
Finn sent me to Big Ghost's "Best of" blog post for 20111. It's a fun read, and features exciting music. One comment stuck out: The Roots is basically the Rolling Stones of hip hop b. Sometime in 2003 I predicted in conversation with my friend Angela that either the Beastie Boys or the Roots w...

We're soon going to move Streetsy over to new hosting at Tumblr, and integrate it with our new graffiti tracking site, http://www.grafrank.com - you'll see the site redirect soon, and things may look messy for a couple of weeks. -Jake Continue reading

I've added graphs to my daily GrafRank updates. I've also added graphs for some major cities- but I need your help! If you live in any of these cities and are knowledgeable about the scene, I need you to tell me if these stats seem accurate. If there are artists who are missing, or the data for an artist seems wrong, please let me know. Email me @ [email protected]!

"My name is Scot Borofsky and I was the most visible street artist in the East Village during the early 80's. I had around 30 large murals which were designed as outdoor site-specific installations. All were signed without a name, but with the same symbol, which was the equivalent of a "tag". And many were clustered together in an earth-work size experience between E.5th St. and E.6th St. to both sides of Ave. C, which was called "The Pattern Walk".
The Pattern walk, along with my other most prominent pieces are now connected as the first historical outdoor street art virtual installation. You can experience this by clicking on this link: http://virtualeastvillage84.com/ to navigate through the installation, follow the arrows through the studio and out the window, then through the vacant lots. Use the two available maps to save time.
Some of the photos are available as collectible artworks.
Also please check out this informative historic street art catalog: http://streetstudioartcatalog.com/studio_street_art_catralog_001.htm
(I have a box of these)
Check also my SPRAY PAINT ARCHIVE located at my main website: http://scotsart.net/
And do not forget the check for THE WALL OF THE AMERICAS
Hope you enjoy finding a missing puzzle piece- - - - - SCOT BOROFSKY"

From Caterina Cesarini: "The Italian cruise ship Costa Concordia partially sank on 13 January 2012 after hitting a reef off the Italian coast and running aground at Isola del Giglio. The captain, Francesco Schettino, was arrested on preliminary charges of multiple manslaughter, failure to assist passengers in need and abandonment of ship. Through this work of art we experience the definition of a visual icon to the cowardice of Mr. Schettino in everlasting warning for companies not to enroll such cowordly bastards in key positions. The sank cruise ship is depicted associated with the word “CODARDIA” - cowordice, title that plays in assonance to ship’s original name “CONCORDIA” - concord, harmony. The original uncommisioned and unauthorized art work has been realized in less than an hour."

I changed the grafrank methodology slightly and reprocessed the last 30 days. The results don't change that much from the last run- still some noise below a rank of "5". Also, say what you want about Mr. Brainwash, but scientifically,... Continue reading

For Streetsy Version 3, I've been thinking about different ways to algorithmically track graffiti around the world. As a first step, I made a program that analyzed graffiti activity by artist and city, and then collected about a month of... Continue reading
