There’s a lot of pent-up demand, in the community of Sony users, for a 35mm f2. Sony have given us the perfectly nice 28mm, so why not 35 also?
Strange DNA
Some things never change: Fast and slow Zeiss 35's on the Sony A7III. Illustration from CameraSize. Companies don't have DNA and neither do product lines, and yet, mysteries persist. Many moons ago, I had caught the photography bug and was saving for my first camera and considering what to buy...
I like what Leica have done with the T and (and now) the CL line. However, I’d caution that the lenses for this mount appear to be merely very good rather than spectacular. I’m hoping we’ll soon see a Ricoh GR III with that same sensor. I’ll take that over a CL (or any other mirrorless equivalent) and pancake lens.
The New Leica CL
Here's a new camera that's right down my alley. For several years I shot with the Minolta CLE, which was Minolta's version of the original film Leica CL, using the great 40mm ƒ/2 M-Rokkor, which was Minolta's version of the Leica 40mm Summicron-C (the Minolta was the better lens because it had...
That review ended far too soon :-/. What is this strange allure of gear I can’t afford?
Fujifilm GFX Review Part I
Reviewed by Stephen Scharf I recently rented a Fujifilm GFX 50S and the GF 32–64mm ƒ/4 zoom lens for a few days over a long weekend, a weekend that included my last professional motor race of the year, the Go Pro Grand Prix of Sonoma Indy Car race. To get a feel the camera in real-world sett...
It's the not so subtle (probably inadvertent) message that amuses me. It's a big camera. It's a muscular camera. It's a man's camera!
That said, I don't buy all the negativity about Nikon. They've just perfected the high end DSLR for the third (or is it the fourth?) time? Canon's focus on its glass did turn out to be the better hand to play though.
Nikon Steps In It Again
Oh, Nikon, Nikon, Nikon. What are we going to do with you? The latest flurry of bad bad pub is all about tone-deafness, and, I think, isolation from the outside world. It's a bad kind of viral news for a company. You commit some stupid blunder, a plain faux pas, a dunderheaded misstep, and put y...
Olympus had a very small digital system at the point Canon stirred. Now look at the Micro Four Thirds and Fuji systems of today. These are substantially complete systems, with a strong community of users these companies could only have dreamed of in the early naughties.
That said, the idea that it is somehow game over for CaNikon is of course absurd.
Brief Speculations on Nikon and Mirrorless
Written by Eamon Hickey There's been a bit of buzz in the past week over Nikon's future plans for mirrorless cameras. The good folks at Digital Photography Review even managed to wrangle an official statement from Nikon that the company is "currently developing new mirrorless products," although...
