Hey Bernie, I'm in the Hartnett Enterprise Acceleration Centre on the LIT campus 3 days a week now. Let me get you a coffee some day you're around.
There Are No Work Desks in Hallways
Photo by @topgold in Moylish. I HAVE BECOME a road warrior again, spending as much time commuting between campus locations most days than I do teaching students. I work a lot of hallways where desk space is rare. Our campus venues stretch me 50 miles on each leg. I listen to more business audio ...
The problem is we don't need another (centralized) network, we need ONE network (not Twitter!). As Dave Winer says http://t.co/nCrqD6f6
Or Steve Sanderson - RT @stevensanderson Why isn't microblogging decentralised yet? Email & web publishing don't need single host company to control them.
Joined the App.Net Posse
Bernie Goldbach in Cashel | Screenshot from my Alpha.App.net Dashboard I AM DABBLING with the community inside App.net because it's a nice conversation pit. It's not a networking nirvana but it sounds a lot like Jaiku in 2006 and Twitter in 2007 with a boatload of iOS app developers thrown i...
I read this blog post in Google Reader. Despite my liking for Flipboard I'll never leave my news flow entirely to the recommendation of friends.
I've just remembered too that I wrote a blog post, probably several years ago, predicting that I'd be soon commenting on blog posts directly from within Google Reader. I was sure the plumbing was getting there. Pity it never did.
A Personal Tributary Feeding Twitter
GOOGLE'S iREADER is a personal tributary that I use to feed Twitter. I've been using it since its beta in July 2008. I snapped a shot of its fast-flowing river of news (at left) to compare it to the slower-rendering version I used with a joystick years ago. I've discovered most tweeple don't ha...

How much are baking trays these days?
Extending Wifi Around Immersion Barriers
Bernie Goldbach in Cashel | My photo of the adapter OUR TP-LINK TL-WN722N wireless high gain USB adapter allows me to connect my Dell M2400 laptop to an O2 Hotshot two floors away. And the adapter's 4dBi antenna swivels so I can point it directly at the Hotshot's location. Our tall house has a...
I hadn't realized, but apparently you can collaborate on Foursquare lists. So feel free to edit mine if you like.
Our Essential Coffee Culture
Bernie Goldbach in Limerick | Image from my photostream MEET FACE-TO-FACE for a coffee. That's a common action step in my life. If I pass on staff coffee chats while on campus, it costs me an extra half hour of e-mail work. Stuff I hear and say with colleagues over coffee helps get things done ...
Nice one, my Limerick list is shamefully small compared with my Dublin one.

I left a few photos of coffee on Foursquare and Instagram today as I set out on a new journey to start grinding my own beans. First stop was Zest at the Limerick City Gallery of Art - a hidden gem I have to say. Beautiful setting & decor, gorgeous food and open, free wifi.
That was followed by a brief fly-by of new pop-up coffee shop @canteen_ on Mallow Street and a bean run to The French Cafe on Catherine Street. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by the strong cafe culture along the length of Catherine Street as people made the best of the rare summer sun.

I wouldn't worry about Weckler's cynicism - he has all the imagination of a... journalist ;-) Just-eat.ie have just launched a new bus advertising campaign with QR codes offering a discount. It'll be interesting to hear Emer McCormack's feedback on click-through rates.
Hoping Adrian Weckler Isn't Right
Bernie Goldbach in LIT-Clonmel | Screenshot from my iTouch while in a Hangout I LISTEN TO ADRIAN WECKLER, partly for opinion and partly for trend analysis. Yesterday, he dismissed two technologies we have used in our third level curriculum. [1] We use QR Codes and Google Hangouts to improve acc...
Tip: I find that Klip.me sometimes fails on pages when Readability works fine.
The Elegant Save-to-Kindle
BERNIE GOLDBACH in Golden | Screenshot of Klip.me | 144 words SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK, I announce triumphantly that I've saved something to Kindle. It means I'm carrying the information in as clean a format as possible without the need to go online to see what I've downloaded. It feels very empowe...

Learning More About QR Codes
I FOLLOW EOIN KENNEDY online and like the survey of QR codes that he's making. There's good stuff in his annotated lists of QR codes. I tell friends that I was sold on QR codes the moment I watched a Dutch gardener explain how to care for a plant that I was thinking about buying. I merely point...
You can't beat Tweetchat.com for keeping up with the firehose of #edchatie
The Big Irish Education Aggregation
I LISTENED TO mainstream Irish television as George Lee unpacked issues concerning Irish education while simultaneously watching a whitewater flow of teachers tweeting about how to make the best of limited resources. The TV show is three years behind the pack. That's not unusual, because mainst...
Thanks for the shoutout Bernie (BTW the link is broken ;-) - it was another very enjoyable meetup.
My Limerick OpenCoffee Finding
THE MARCH 2012 Limerick OpenCoffee #LOCC confirmed for me that a lot of the connections sustaining this self-organising group of entrepreneurs come through the long form. This conclusion seems so obvious now. Like many #LOCC sessions, three of four new faces passed through the Riverbank coffee ...
Thanks Alex and Emmet. I'll definitely be writing elsewhere, probably more than I ever wrote here. The future is here and it's widely distributed ;-)
So long blog, it's been good
On August 6th 2003 I launched this blog with (in retrospect) a cringeworthy post. Ah well, I only had an audience of one and didn't have a clue what I really wanted to write about but nevertheless knew I should be writing. Writing. It's all about the writing. And the format, whether long form bl...
Ah thanks Walter - your last sentence is what makes me nostalgic for 'the good ol' days' of blogging when there was a great sense of camaraderie and community.
I made a big deal about leaving Facebook a few years ago only to sheepishly return some months later so I don't want to make a big deal about this. I'm not giving up blogging per se, just this blog. Education is what floats my boat nowadays, more-so than entrepreneurship so that's my focus for now and MissionV will most likely get more of my long form attention.

My View of Apple's Education Initiatives
I USE APPLE products to learn. Apple and learning have been part of my life since 1984. But I'm not convinced the interactive Apple way is best in all cases. The Non-Transformative iBook Experience I've taken several well-run training courses provided by Apple for educators. They were...
I encountered a nice use for this today. After booking a hotel instead of printing the booking summary (to paper) I 'printed' to Kindle and now there it is, ready to produce at check-in.
Send to Kindle from Browser
A LOT OF MY LIFE converges on my Kindle's screen and that's why I like to send and receive essential reading material via Kindle. I aslso have a 14 MB Windows shell utility that lets me quickly send one or multiple documents to my Kindle device or library. I can access the docs on my Kindle or ...

Evernote as a Routine
I BOUGHT INTO Evernote last year and started paying for its service when Mitch Joel said it was time to "burn the ships". Mitch was quoting Cortez on the shores of Mexico and the advice stuck with me as I stood in an office with dwindling admin support. By adjusting my routine--and not adding a...
