If you have ever been depressed, or are depressed, don't miss Hyperbole and a Half's latest post.
I'm cr-a-zee about that birdie! I have a friend with a gray parrot that is one of those most amazing animals on the planet creatures. The parrot, not the guy.
Oh! Who's a birdie birdie birdie? Sweet birdie! I want to love the birdie! Oh Furry, why do you live so far away? I want to watch the birdie and pet the birdie and feed the birdie. (just not, you know, own the birdie) Love your glasses, too, girl. You're as cute as the birdie. Thanks for the post. PJ

Oh, yes, Letha. Dog only nose. Thanks.
Oh, Sweet Furry and Hud, I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Carmen. Furry, as I went through these last few days with Humphrey I actually thought of you and Carmen several times as I knew from The Pie that she was ailing. I remembered your telling about how you thought it was time and then you and Hud bathed her and she perked right up. Carmen was surely a very special dog. I hope your vet was a kind and sweet to you as ours was to me. My husband had to leave this morning for a trip to Charleston so I had to take Humphrey by myself. I think it was better that way. Poor hubby was a complete basket case before he left. We would have sobbed uncontrollably had we been together. We married 16 years ago. We got Humphrey 15 1/2 years ago. It was the first dog hubby ever knew and he was blown away by how smart and loving a dog can be. And how he rounded out our little 3 member pack. There are no pets in the house now so it seems awfully quiet. Even though I know it was the right thing to do I just keep hoping Humphrey isn't mad at me. Funny how our minds get. I'm terribly sorry to hear about Hud's retina detachment. And for you to keep such a secret with such worry for all that time. You are a very special person. Condolences, PJ

Oh, Furry. I have no idea how one make this decision. The decision has always been made for me in one way or another and I dread dread dread the day I have to say yes or no. Carmen looks like such a sweet girl. And love the pic of Aida Eyes.

Oh, Simone is trying to be such a good girl. It is so easy to inadvertently teach that which we are trying to discourage. Simone, do NOT fetch! PJ

Thanks for the rest of the tour, Furry G. I'm sorry you've been sick. I loved your line about being able to pack so much into 3 days and so little into 7. Hope you're much on the mend. PJ

So lovely, every picture. I especially like the window in the last shot. There is nothing like having seen hard times to make the ordinary seem luscious. PJ

Truth is stranger than fiction. Later I will send you a very different story of communication with my dear friend Betsy who also died at 49. But not now. Now I'm thinking of you and robot rabbit and the things we cannot explain, but know anyway. PJ

Furry, this breaks my heart. I am so sorry. I am so sorry. I moved 1,000 miles away from home 15 years ago. Within a year, two close girl friends died of the stupid rotten cancer. Both went from diagnosis to death in about 6 months. You will never forget her. You will always love her. You will talk to her in your mind. And your eyes will cry and cry. I am so sorry. PJ

Oh, Furry, I hope her people seemed nice! I can just feel her velvet earsies. Thanks for the pictures. Can't get over your peaceable kingdom there. If I added a 2nd dog to my only dog I would have a buzz saw to contend with! Jealous. PJ

Loved seeing your fish. We put 12 tiny feeder fish in our fairly good sized pond 13 years ago. I fed them and loved having them nibble my fingers. THEN the population exploded and we had to find people/ places who would take 50 or 100 fish at a time! They were reproducing so much because I feed them and if the food is abundant so is the reproduction...So I stopped feeding them. Now they keep themselves in nice balance just eating the bugs and algae that are naturally present. I had one white on who grew large and now, 13 years of reproduction later we still have white babies come along. Alas, the white ones get eaten first. Sigh. Why can't nature be all nice? PJ I also have frogs in the pond and I hear the frogs eat the fish eggs and the fish eat the frog eggs and either everybody's mad or everybody's happy. Add a great blue heron who visits, the hawks by day and the owls by night and everybody seems pretty much in balance. Except of course the land critters, like, oh, chippies who Rule.

Awwwww. What a dear post and set of pictures. You are a dog 'owner' after my own heart. I totally spoil my little fuzzy white guy just like that. Guess who got 1/3 of the salmon at dinner tonight? Let's see...the 180 lb man got 1/3. The 125 lb woman got 1/3 and the little 12 pound dog for 1/3. Fair? Doggy didn't think so. He got robbed. PJ

Furry, you always make me smile. There is an inn we like to stay at in the NC mtns. One of the attractions is the skunk parade every evening. For reasons we don't know numerous skunks walk past the inn at twilight. As regular as clockwork. They ignore all the people sitting in their rocking chairs on their patios or balconies to watch them strut by. They are clearly going to skunk happy-hour or something. PJ

I'm mean no more. Not since a friend said to me once, "If you treated a child like you treat yourself I would report you for child abuse." Bong! What a wake-up call. Since then I try to treat myself like I would treat a child, or my dog. I let me rest when I'm tired, feed me when I'm hungry, tell me how cute I am, etc. PJ
