It's been a rough two weeks for central and south-eastern Ohioans on the roads. More over, it's been a rough time for those who are our children on our roads. On June 2, a Kindergartener was killed in a bus crash in Dresden. On June 8, an 18 year old was killed on his motorcycle as he was involved in a head on collision with a van in Cambridge. He was wearing a helmet. On June 9, a family of five, including a three and seven year old, were all killed in an accident on I-70 just west of Zanesville.... Continue reading

Every once in awhile my job lets me meet really great Ohioans. I had such an encounter recently and felt the need to share his story with you. His name is James "Spudd" Sasak and he's a character with bright blue eyes and a great personality. He's currently biking around Ohio, stopping at local courthouses and generally being awesome all for a great cause: Ohio's Special Olympics. I met him in front of our local courthouse on the evening of Friday, June 4th as the sky blackened and lightning flashed. I sent my kids up under the cover of the... Continue reading

There's a problem I wish we had: where to send our kids to school. We have two options: our local, underfunded school district or the local, overpriced Catholic school. Neither of which are remotely appealing. When I hear stories about people being bummed that they were turned down from their top three choices, I want to cuss. And cry. And whine a little. I probably turn a darker shade of green as well. In rural Ohio and even smaller cities of Ohio, there are no choices, no options. You simply go to the school in your district. We're lucky in... Amen. Adoption is not about rescuing children. I cannot handle that attitude. I cannot handle the entitlement. I cannot stand when children are raised in that sense of environment, as though they should be grateful under any and every circumstance that happens in the adoptive home just because they were "rescued." That's a hard way to live your life.

Pregnancy isn't for everyone. My issue is that adoption is mentioned so flippantly. The current state of the adoption industry is a mess. There are ethical implications with domestic newborn adoption, International adoption and even foster care. There are children in need, yes, but there is also a system that is preying on vulnerable women and vulnerable waiting families alike. Adoption is wonderful sometimes. The rest of the time it's a lot of hard work and red tape with serious ethical implications. If Jillian had said one thing about that, she'd have my support.

Moscato. I hated wine until my friend convinced me to try Moscato. I'm now a wine lover.

Yes, yes. We have a box in the hallway right now. I'm too lazy to take it down to the storage room in the basement since I'll just be getting it out next month to fully put all the winter stuff away (minus a sweatshirt or two for cool camp evenings). We're a mess over here. Help!

My husband is not just a firefighter. He worked for years as a Paramedic before finally getting on the fire department. The truth is that children need to be in the proper place in a vehicle (NOT the front seat and our rule for that date is 12) and properly restrained (car seat, booster) for them to be the safest. He's seen the results. You're not alone in your approval of the booster seat law.

I never have cash either. It saves my budget! So I would have been just like you and my kids would have been just like yours. I'm glad your husband called!

I'm just new to this blog. (First time commenter!) One year is fabulous! I e-mailed you for a sticker. As we're gearing up to breastfeed with the arrival of our (next) son, I'm sure it will be handy to give SOME place! :) Happy anniversary!
