Dear Amanda, thank you so much for your sweet words. As a teacher frantically working to create remote learning that’s accessible, incorporates student choice, and is independent for my 5th graders, you’ve perfectly captured the message that I’m sending to the families of my students, my colleagues, and our district administration—do what you can and what you do is enough. Connection and love are the most important things we can do right now. ❤️
Hi, friends!
Well, hello there! My goodness, it's been exactly a year (almost to the day) since I wrote here last with a 'goodbye for now' post. And of course, so much has changed in one year's time - the expected changes of growing children and all of that (really, truly, so much growth in one year happen...
Looks awesome! I can’t wait to check it out. :)
11.27.17 ~ It was a party!
Oh goodness! I am still struggling to find the words to express how I feel about Saturday's grand opening for Taproot and Milk and Honey at 84 Cove Street! It was such an epic undertaking, this grand opening and getting it ready in such a short period of time. I...

This morning, I will plant the garlic. Not because it's one of the last thing on my to do list and I want to check it off, but because it is an action of hope, and an investment in the future. These are the very things I need this week, and I'm grateful for this one tiny act in the garden ...

Nancy is wonderful! Some friends and I took in the fleeces of 16 sheep from a local farm that didn't want them. We brought them to Nancy and she worked her magic and now we have pounds and pounds of beautiful roving. One friend had some of it machine spun into yarn by Nancy and it's just gorgeous. I have 15 lbs of roving waiting for the arrival of a spinning wheel. Such fun! So fortunate to have such skilled people in our state. Happy spinning--those colors are divine!
ready to spin
It's here! My winter fun is here! Oh, I'm so excited. This weekend I traveled to the coast to pick up this spring's twelve fleeces, all cleaned, carded and made into the most glorious roving, ready for what comes next. I send my fleeces to NEWAIM Fiber Mill in Waldoboro, where Nancy ...

The Grass is Always Greener {Stacy}
Every year, in about February, I wake up in the middle of the night and start frantically crunching numbers. It’s usually around this time that we have hired a big crew for the season and the credit card bill with all the seed purchases and supplies arrives. UPS is at the door everyday, which is...
Looking forward to your posts this week!
Long End of the Straw {Stacy}
As I approach the place in my mothering life where my children need me differently than they did in early childhood, there is this slow but gradual sense that I need something bigger than my family to keep me afloat. It doesn’t come in a wave or as an epiphany, but rather a nudging along, a nagg...

I'll be right here
It was negative 20 degrees this morning when we first checked. Even the skiers amongst us aren't out skiing yet. I, for one, have no plans to move beyond this spot unless absolutely necessary (I suppose the children will need to eat at some point). I'll be perfectly cozy right here - with ...

Bravo to all the Soules this Nutcracker season! It was our very first Nutcracker (our youngest was a reindeer in one performance) and we were awed by all the talent and effort that goes into each and every performance. Magic! Rest up and enjoy the holidays!!
at the end of the show
I'm moving slowly this morning, and my boys are still sleeping at 10:30am. It is the morning after a long stretch of Nutcracker time and we're all sleepy (including Papa who has juggled the home front on his own). I think I feel as tired as though I were on that stage dancing all...

Taproot's Issue 12::BREAD is hot of the press and begins shipping to subscribers this week! Issue 12? How can it be? This wraps up our third full year, it's so hard to believe. And each issue gets better and better (in my humble opinion, that is). This one takes the cake. Or the bread. Or the ...
