What a Difference a Year Makes (Brooklyn Half Marathon 2014)
On May 17, 2013, I received the call from my doctor that my second IVF procedure was a failure. In that moment, I felt like my body had failed me. With all the power of modern medicine, I still could not will my body to do the one thing I so desperately wanted it to do. I remember very clearly w...
Congratulations on your marathon! What an awesome accomplishment. Maybe someday I'll do a full one too... maybe. ;)

Yes, I think you should start! :)
Project Life 2014: Weeks 5-7
Here are my Project Life layouts for Weeks 5, 6 and 7 (click to enlarge): I wanted to preserve the homemade Valentines that the girls made this year, so I created an extra layout for Week 7 that just showcases those. I think Ella's Valentine to Matt is my favorite... gotta love brutal ki...
Thanks Ashley! I think I'm going to put them in a photo book at the end of the year... still not totally sure but I will definitely share here once I figure it all out!

Great shots... they make me a little homesick! Love Portland!
photo walk // downtown portland
A cold, but sunny January morning in downtown Portland. Things that caught my attention: brilliant sunlight, sidewalk pavers, old architecture & detail, decorative manhole covers, wide open green spaces, tree-lined streets, red brick
They are trying to make it to Halloween, but they get an extra bonus if they go all the way to December 31st. So far, so good. Valentine's Day is the first big hurtle. Oh, and they can still eat desserts (cookies, ice cream, etc.), so they are not totally deprived. :)
Color Your Heart Out Valentine (Free Printable)
My girls are trying to go without candy in 2014 (there is a cash reward at the end of the year if they make it), so I had to search out non-candy valentines for them to hand out to their classmates this year. Thank goodness for Pinterest. Ella will be handing out these in third grade, and I th...

So sorry you didn't get the news you wanted to hear about Jonas' seizures. That has to be so tough. Thanks for keeping us posted on his progress!
Photos: 2014. Week 5. January 26 - February 1
Jan 26 We'd been shifting Jonas sleep schedule in preparation for the upcoming hospital stay and SPECT scan. I've been keeping him up late at night in hopes of getting him to sleep later in the mornings. I got a little computer time while Jonas was still sleeping and Matt and Elliott were at...
Thanks Shari! I'm glad you stopped by! :)
Christmas Catch Up: Christmas Eve + Christmas Day
After the Christmas Eve program, we drove home and put out cookies and milk for Santa. We had decorated cookies the day before and each girl picked out one of their own cookies to leave out. Claire chose that stocking in the middle with 28 red hots on it. We crossed our fingers and hoped that ...
I would love to see them Jocelyne!
Back in the {Project Life} Saddle
At the end of last year, I quietly chose my One Little Word for 2014... thrive. 2013 for me was all about just making it through day by day - surviving - and as I got ready to turn the page over to a new year I was feeling really ready for something more. Part of thriving for me is revisiting so...
But of course! Lucy's still talking about him! :)

Yes, I am planning to print these out in a photo book at the end of the year! I think you could get the hang of this without a problem if you are familiar with Photoshop. Cathy recently posted a video that shows her Project Life process in real time that might be helpful if you are thinking about getting started:

This video also might be helpful. It shows the basics of digital scrapbooking with a layered template:

Funny enough, I don't really consider Ella much of a doll kid either, but she had her heart set on Molly for some reason! I have always loved Molly, so I was happy that one of my girls wanted her!

Happy anniversary! I didn't realize you were a member of the 19-year-old bride club too. ;) We are celebrating 15 years in August, and I am constantly amazed at how lucky I am that things turned out so well despite the fact that yes, I was truly clueless back then!
15 years
Seriously. Are we old enough to have been married 15 years? 15 years It feels so quick, yet so long at the same time. There are a lot of memories contained in 15 years of growing a marriage and a family. We have definitely changed and grown from the 19 and 22 year old babies that came out of ...

Christmas Catch Up: Santa Visit + Christmas Eve Program
A few days before Christmas, we headed out to see Santa. I'm pretty sure it was the first time all three girls went willingly and no tears were shed. I guess that means they're growing up. (Sigh.) Ella asked for an American Girl doll (Molly). Lucy asked for a "piggie" (gotta love the random ...

Homemade icing makes all the difference - just use a basic royal icing recipe. I usually just pick up the Wilton gingerbread house kits they sell at Michael's, but really any kit will work. I buy a regular size kit for myself and one of the "mini village" kit for my girls (it comes with four small houses). I usually pick up some extras really cheap after Christmas... Valentine's Day gingerbread houses are really cute! :)
Christmas Catch Up: Gingerbread Houses
One snowy Saturday in December, we embarked on our annual gingerbread houses. If you know me, or have read my blog for any length of time, you know I take my gingerbread houses pretty seriously. I always do a house of my own: And the girls each tackle their own small house: Ella's ho...
I know. I have serious coat envy.
Christmas Catch Up: NYCB Nutcracker
Last year, Claire and I went to see the New York City Ballet's Nutcracker, and we enjoyed it so much that this year I thought we should include Ella too. Beforehand, the whole family drove into the city for brunch at The Smith. The girls all got hot chocolate and buttermilk waffles with strawb...
