the ritual of the morning room
*This blog has moved. Please visit me a www.jensrealia.ca. I'd love to hear from you!* I haven’t used an alarm clock in years. Not needing one is one of the best things that happened to me in middle age. I wake up a little before six most days, well in advance of the time I need to get ready for work. I welcome waking up; that time to myself before the commotion of city and work are like a daily gift. With an alarm clock it was different; the wakeup call like a general ordering me out of bed, and... Continue reading

this blog is moving
For the longest time I've gone back and forth about whether I wanted to return to blogging. Astonishingly I've continued to pay for the Typepad space simply for lack of deciding what I will do with the project, or even just the accumulated writing. The Typepad folks are great, always helpful and responsive and the blog designs are beautiful. But my lack of commitment didn't warrant the cost - I could maintain a site for free or almost free. So I took action the other day and bought a domain where all this has moved to (jensrealia.ca). I could house... Continue reading

a forgotten nursery rhyme is unforgotten on a tuesday morning
One misty, moisty, morning, When cloudy was the weather, There I met an old man All clothed in leather All clothed in leather, With a cap under his chin. How do you do? And how do you do? And how do you do again? Continue reading

I'm great my friend! Feeling a little ashamed at not responding to some of the kind comments above. But won't feel apologetic or remorseful about the retreat from writing here. I accept it as something that was natural and needed. Well, and this current job has me writing so intensively every day, I don't have the gumption to do more of it when I get home.
Anyway, I will be back. You're piece of today (http://menopausalstoners.blogspot.ca/2014/04/thing-of-beauty-077-101-just-askin.html) was the last inspiration I needed.

I’m sitting here looking out at the millions of diamonds floating on the harbour and I’m filled with contentedness. I don’t know what that has to do with this post, but it seemed like a good way to start it. We’ve just finished our weekly brunch of frittata – this time with purple kale, asparagu...
Peggy Jo, thanks so much for your response. As a matter of fact, I am coming back after my from blog vacation. Soon I look forward to getting to know you in the bloggy world. Comments like yours are the best motivation!

Thanks Mike! And for the wise advice too. You and Tom Waits are smart blokes.

Yes, I know exactly what you mean RB! You expect to feel a certain way in advance, and when it happens, and then your mind, spirit and body are saying something else, well, it's confounding. Thanks, lovely friend. That I can abandon this space for so long and friends come back and read what I write and have something to say about it - it means the world. Xo

I’m sitting here looking out at the millions of diamonds floating on the harbour and I’m filled with contentedness. I don’t know what that has to do with this post, but it seemed like a good way to start it. We’ve just finished our weekly brunch of frittata – this time with purple kale, asparagus and tomato and accompanied by couple of slices of nitrate-free bacon. I don’t know what that has to do with this post either, but it certainly reflects my rather limited perspective of the last month and a half. Cooking, was, I suppose, my way of... Continue reading

Thank you Susan. I suppose I would get tired of relentless sunlight if I had it too. And I do love rainy days. I just have that 9-5-er dilemma, of going to work when it's dark and coming home when it's dark.
Anyway, funny you should mention the picture making you want to make cocoa. When I was thinking about the stove light as something I've always loved, I had memories of me as a pre-teen making hot ovaltine...

It’s deepest, darkest winter. Technically it’s not the darkest winter; that went by a month ago and I am starting to notice the longer days and I'm grateful for that. But it’s deepest, darkest winter in that there are months of it behind us and months ahead. This past week we’ve been in a big fr...
