Brexit
Brexit. Sigh. The U.K. is shooting itself in the head. The Tories called for an ill-advised and non-binding popular 2016 vote about Brexit under Cameron, who left office over the result, & wasn't in favor of Brexit anyway. Tories and Brexiteers delayed for years about it under May, who d...

Yep, it died after 2008. Sorry.
Trinoc*coN 8 starts today
For my spec-fic oriented friends: Trinoc*coN 8 starts today and runs through the weekend. Trinoc*coN is the Triangle's own SF convention; it's in Raleigh this year at the North Raleigh Hilton. And, for all you Song of Ice and Fire freaks, the Con GoH is George R. R. Martin. There's gaming al...
Chris, I imagine it's dead, but I can ask someone.

15 Books in 15 Minutes
Damn FB taggers. I can't even type this up in 15 minutes. So I'm cheating. :) I tried to put this roughly in time order. And it has either more or less than 15 books on it, depending on how you count. Life Science Library and Life Nature Library -- I didn't know until I went to look the...
Sarah's sister Ruth just sent me this obituary: http://andersonbethany.com/fh/obituaries/obituary.cfm?o_id=1470498&fh_id=13307
Sarah Louise Trombly-Stillson: A Small Attempt at an Obituary
[Part of this was previously posted to the ghost-planet mailing list, with later additions.] Some of you might remember Sarah Trombly-Stillson, a.k.a "Suzz," from the original ghost-planet mailing list at Duke. She was the woman who had a small Zorak tattoo... somewhere... on her body. :) She...
I remember the shithead's name now: Pete, which was what my mom used to call me when I was a kid. Fucking asshole ripped off both Sarah and her mom. Also stole water from the city where Sarah used to live, and got Sarah in trouble with the law for it. Glad there's a thousand miles of continent between me and that loser.

To be a little less nice, I'd like to find that fucking grifter Sarah fell in with and moved to AZ with when she was still probably brain damaged. I'd like to figure out if there were a way to get his ass in jail.

Thanks folks. I posted again above.
Sarah Trombly-Stillson, RIP
For Sarah Louise Trombly-Stillson: The song that started going through my mind today when I heard Sarah had died was the "Butterflies are free to fly" part of Elton John's "Someone Saved My Life Tonight." I don't know why. The song wasn't already running through my head. The lyrics aren't ap...

Peters Design Works?
Anyone know where Peters Design Works has moved to? The store on 619 Foster has closed, right? Maybe I should just call them, but it is the 4th of July and a Sunday. Happy 4th of July, folks.
Exactly what I was thinking. :)

Why do so many artists have to drink themselves to death? Maybe Mr. Rafferty would have been better off to have continued being a busker on the London Tube for the rest of his life, but then we never would... Continue reading

Richard -- nice. :) I suggest adding a random component to the number of hours open and/or the starting time. So, for instance, take consecutive digits in pi, and be open that many hours. You could even add in a few extra rules, like any occurrence of 9 in replaced by 0. :)
Turkey Day kind of a Turkey for some Retail Workers
While lots of workers in emergency, utility, law enforcement, and the like have always had to work on holidays, it appears to be spreading into retail: Samantha said she and her colleagues don't know whether to blame their employer or the shoppers who show up on the holiday. Poor folks. Give th...
