Time to move back to the shadows ... I'm converting to being lurk-only. I still think it's time to give TM the blog back so he can repopulate it with like-minded folks. Like Cecil :) And others I realize mine is not a majority opinion ... that TM himself has not asked for it ... and plenty of people are still enjoying the blog the way it is. So best wishes and hope it continues to be a pleasant home for all.

Someone: "I do get the front-line healthcare workers” ABob: "OTOH, they’re the best-equipped to protect themselves. N95s and other PPE have mostly been reserved for them, and are made of unobtainium for the rest of us." The other argument that's been made is that if there's an overlooked defect in the vaccine it would be sad to kill your entire medical corps straight out the gate.

The part of Joe Rogan that I like best is when he questions a guest about their deviation from the conventional wisdom. He is gentle but persistent. Example, when he discusses mask wearing with Berenson. I avoid masks whenever possible but I would have found the questioning a challenge. For the first year ever we didn't gut it out till midnight, instead turned in early. We'll be up early to head to nearby Mission Peak with another couple to walk up to the summit. As the traditional Chinese New Year wish goes "May each step take you higher". Of course ... once you're at the top, each subsequent step takes you lower ... these proverbs only get you so far ...

ManTran, are you still interested in Graham Hancock? If so, I want to alert you to an interesting, long podcast/interview with Graham Hancock and another guy if you haven't seen it. I'm half way through. Robin posted about the Joe Rogan interview/podcast on Spotify with Alex Berenson which was great on several levels. So I started to look for others. 1) This one with Graham Hancock and Brian Muraresku. BMur has classical language expertise and has done research into Eleusis and other religion-formative practices. 2) Moxie Marlinspike Weird name, I know. He's a coder and is a founder of Signal. Signal is a messaging app ("texting") that encrypts your data. Texting on Android is in the clear. Apple iMsg is a bit better but easily broken to anyone with determination. There's a lot of buzz about people moving to Signal, also changing email to ProtonMail for better security from NSA, CIA, FBI, DNC and so on. The Signal stuff is OK, the guy's had an interesting life and the highlight for me in this talk was his description of a near-death experience on SF Bay in a boat. Enthralling. All the other Joe Rogan talks are with people I haven't heard of ... or don't approve of. But there are a ton, and I've only flipped though a few dozen pages of titles so far. I should mention they mention a much older podcast with just Rogan and Hancock. But I didn't find that one yet. https://www.jrepodcast.com/episode/joe-rogan-experience-1543-brian-muraresku-graham-hancock/

Dumb question: not everyone gets a check, whether $600 or $2000, right? I don't think we got one last time. There've been reports of people getting the money deposited already ... maybe they're pulling legs.

Joan 12:02 Excellent
If you keep up on Covid tech, this is a vaccine selling point: even BETTER than natural antibodies generated by your body from recovery. I'm guessing time will prove this false, misleading or partial-truth but it's the current conventional wisdom. And who knows. Might turn out to be true. Pretty convenient though. Sort of like "masks don't protect you, they protect others". The ONLY reason to avoid masks is ill intent to others. "The mRNA vaccines target MULTIPLE sites on the corona. Thus they have a greater chance of working even as the virus mutates in small ways. Immunity you acquire from illness might have latched on to any SINGLE site of the virus. So a greater chance that a mutated strain could infect you (likely why we have seen a small number of reinfection cases). Conclusion, vaccination is superior to so-called natural methods." Berenson is a lonely voice talking about Covid. He's not that lonely, really. You're right jimmyk. He's far from alone. My intended point was that the guy spends a lot of time being dogpiled on Twitter, which (to my eye) gives him a bit of a shell-shocked vibe. Glad to hear that ABob found the discussion valuable too, thanks again to Robin for noting it! Berenson said he doesn't believe in conspiracy but instead in "confluence". He and Rogan are interesting to listen to when they talk (on balance disparagingly) about PDJT. A lot of people are, IMO, behind the curve on this. But it's interesting to hear, sort of like it's interesting to read TM's tweets.

"NASHVILLE, one killed in self inflicted bombing Chicago 8 killed 30 wounded in shootings. Nothing in the news about Chicago. Wonder why" I guess our MSM only cares about damaged buildings, not damaged people.

Still reflecting on the wide-ranging conversation of Joe Rogan and Alex Berenson. Two observations 1) There are are a few thoughtful and intellectually honest people on the Left, they mentioned Glenn Greenwald approvingly. I haven't thought this through but even allowing for heroes and knaves on both sides, I would bet my bottom dollar that a Movement that protects freedom for all will only come from the Right. Bernie, BLM, Antifa, Harvard professors, NextDoor/Twitter Karens and so on and so forth will never come forward to protect liberty and justice for all. It's just not in the cards. Has someone written a book on it? 2) Berenson is a lonely voice talking about Covid. He doesn't have a medical degree, he's an intelligent layman who worked as a reporter. So he's regularly assaulted and a bit shell-shocked (though stubborn and correct). This shows on a few issues where Rogan probes him, triggers a forceful response then calmly but firmly presses again. Those are some of the best parts of the talk ... examples: masks, long covid. Rogan also pushed on the topic of "can kids infect adults?" (for example, grandparents in the home). Berenson said most infections go the other direction but could not elaborate why. From my reading, I know 2 data points. One is that kids tend to get mild versions. Thus, they are not sneezing and coughing like crazy and perhaps not infecting others so easily. Also, when the first shutdowns hit, childcare for Essential Workers was allowed to remain open. A number of critics worried: one nurse gets sick from a patient at hospital. She infects her kid. The kid goes to daycare and infects all the other kids. Now great numbers of Essentials are knocked out. Either they get sick from their kid or they are home taking care of the sick kids. This was a worry but it didn't happen. It was one of the first indicators that kids-infecting-others was well below expectations. At first they said "It's weird but it doesn't happen." Later they found a few cases and said "It does happen, another Right-wing talking point demolished." But there's something there, even if not a 100% principle. And Berenson missed his chance to get into more detail on this topic.

Mel quotes CodeMonkeyZ Did you know California SOS allowed the use of the “ImageCast Remote” system in the Nov3 election to “allow voters to mark their selections using their own compatible technology to vote independently and privately in the comfort of their own home”? (Raises hand) I did! I did!

ps, peter my city library is like yours. Few conservative authors. Plus before the flu they announced stuff like transgender story hour. And "we represented Sunnyvale at the LBGQT Parade!", which technically they rep themselves. Not me. The County Library is far better in that regard.

Robin, yes Rogan reminds me of that article that came round a couple years ago about kids who loved freedom but had almost no connection to or even knowledge of classic conservative philosophers or the American Revolution. I think it was called "The kids are alt-right"
