Gumby – the slender, green clay character partly modeled after Clokey’s father – was a fixture on television through the decades, starting with an appearance on the “Howdy Doody” show in 1956. Through the years, the stop motion star made several comebacks, including a new show in the 80s, after a “Saturday Night Live” skit with actor Eddie Murphy made the character popular again. Throughout Gumby’s long run, Gumby toys – most notably, the bendable – have been a staple of toy stores everywhere. Considering the recent death of Gumby creator art clokey I present to you the 21 gum... Continue reading

There are people who enter the news cycle every day because their actions or decisions are new, important or different. Others are in the news because they are the ones those decisions affect. And there are a number of people who are so famous or controversial that anything they say or do becomes news. Some of these people do what we expect of them: They run for office, pass legislation, start a business, get hired or fired, commit a crime, make an arrest, get in accidents, hit a home run, overthrow a government, fight wars, sue an opponent, put out... If your anything like me when June comes around you couldn't be happier. Summer vacation begins and the weather is warm, the sun rises early, and there is a few months of freedom. Not from school per say, because I graduated years ago. A vacation from the dreaded cheese wagon that lugs those little monsters to school day in and day out. I find myself timing my departure to the minute to avoid being behind them. Not because I don't enjoy there smiling faces looking at me out the back window. It's because they stop at every other house to... Continue reading

The second show in the history of television to be brought back to life after a cancellation (the other one's Family Guy) Fox announced that 26 new episodes will be produced for Comedy Central. David X. Cohen has stated that the first 13 episodes will air during 2010 as Season 6, and the remaining 13 episodes air during 2011 as Season 7. Hatched from the mind of The Simpsons creator Matt Groening, Futurama blasts contemporary culture and science fiction alike with an animated comedy barrage. Hapless NYC pizza guy Philip J. Fry makes a fateful delivery to a cryonics lab... Continue reading

The AFC Championship game between the Indianapolis Colts and New York Jets takes place Sunday January 24th at 3pm. Indianapolis was picked by many as a Super Bowl contender and they have lived up to the hype so far by beating the Baltimore Ravens 20-3 to make it to the AFC Championship game. The New York Jets have had a roller coaster of a season, but have gotten back to the formula that works best for them: running the ball and playing great defense. How they got here: Indianapolis (15-2) won, 20-3, at home against the Ravens in the divisional... Continue reading

The following is reprinted from Uncle John’s Absolutely Absorbing Bathroom Reader STUMP SOMEONE Meaning: Ask someone a question they can’t answer Origin: Actually refers to tree stumps. “Pioneers built their houses and barns out of logs … and they frequently swapped work with one another in clearing new ground. Some frontiersmen would brag about their ability to pull up big stumps, but it wasn’t unusual for the boaster to suffer defeat with a stubborn stump.” (From I’ve Got Goose Pimples, by Marvin Vanoni) PAINT THE TOWN RED Meaning: Spend a wild night out, usually involving drinking Origin: “This colorful term... I mean seriously, All the photo rags rave about how beautiful these are. Yes, they are interesting to look at from a photo realistic video game perspective, but photography is about capturing a moment in time that will never happen again. Photography requires a skill set that includes a working knowledge of composition and the ability to set shutter speed and aperture to produce the best image at any given moment. Digital cameras are wonderful, they give us the freedom to view captures before we save them to memory cards, we upload them into our PC's and can manipulate them... Continue reading

Transcript from standup performance I got a postcard from my friend George. It was a satellite picture of the entire earth. On the back he wrote, "Wish you were here." I went to court for a parking ticket. I pleaded insanity. I said, "Your honor, why would anyone in their right mind park in the passing lane?" Curiosity killed the cat, but for a while I was a suspect. When I die, I'm leaving my body to science fiction. Today I was arrested for scalping low numbers at the deli. I sold a #3 for 28 bucks. I was once... Continue reading

Earlier today while twittering around peoples pages I clicked on Bill Gates profile and began following his page. Soon after I found myself skimming through new tweets that didn't jump off the page, and ventured into the suggested users and found itunes movie preview. Intrigued by the possibility of tweets chocked full of movie releases popping up on my page, I clicked to follow that profile as well and thought to myself hooray i'm following 30 people and the grid is now full! Shortly after that, realizing that I just clicked to follow Bill Gates, this seemed like a conflict... Continue reading

I seem to ask myself that question a lot reading copies of The Far Side comics that I find on the web. These uncomfortable social situations, improbable events, an anthropomorphic view of the world, logical fallacies, impending bizarre disasters, or the search for meaning in life made life a little easier to swallow. The strip ran from 1980 - 1995 and was carried by more than 1,900 daily newspapers, translated into 17 languages. For those of you that are new to The Far Side I highly recommend the galleries 1-5 or the entire collection in hard cover as seen here.... Continue reading
