An absolutely beautiful book!
Newest book....
I finished my newest book..... "Beautiful Wanderings" I will be teaching this book, come April 7, 8 & 9th in, Albuquerue, New Mexico. The class will be held in Annie Hooten's studio. hootenannie4@aol.com If you would like more information on signing...
I always enjoy your art postings. I am, now, looking at the owl differently than when I first saw it. The lure is amazingly realistic on the book page, which is a great background. The still life is classically beautiful.
Just what I've been up to
Still enjoying playing with watercolors. The lure above is a vintage one that is a special one for my husband. There are more to come. The first hook is red and the back hook is the usual silvery hook. Not sure why, it's a fisherman's secret I guess. ha! Mr. Owl is mostly watercolor on ...
Sorry about the impending bad habit, but the video is cute.
Bad Dog!
I made a mistake. I got up early Saturday morning, finished Adama, put it around my neck and went straight out of the house to drop my daughter off to take the SAT. Miss Fig, my Boxer puppy, has never shown any interest in my knitting. Not so much as a sniff. But apparently the small ball of ...
Hope you feel better. Glad your family took care of you.
Sick4Christmas
There is nothing as much fun as realizing, the morning of Christmas Eve Day as you're getting up to cook dinner for 15 of your most cherished family members and friends, that you are sick. The denial of the past few days hasn't worked and you have that I-Really-Shouldn't-Be-Out-Of-Bed sick feel...
I'm going to have a grandchild in midOctober and may start looking at knit animal patterns (going beyond knitting just scarves and socks?). I look forward to seeing your completed monkey.
Monkey Back
**if you are looking for the post about the Elliebelly Knit-Along and yarn giveaway, click here.** I'm back to knitting Monkey. And Monkey now has a back. I'm completely enamored with this knit and am starting to envision an entire zoo, full of knitted animals. Fortunately, I'm not the on...
I look forward to seeing how the monkey turns out.
Monkey Has A Head!
Look at Monkey's cute (although sort of creepy since it's disembodied) head. I decided to stuff it, even though the pattern doesn't direct me to at this point, because it seemed like it would be easier now, without having to navigate up the body through the tight neck. There are a lot of co...
Cute mittens, and, sadly, it's still mitten weather.
First Finished Object -- Malabrigo March KAL 2015
It's my first finished object for this year's Malabrigo March Knitalong. Or does it count as two? Tardis Blue mittens, knit from Malabrigo's Bulky weight Rasta yarn. This is a great last minute gift project, as they knit up in just a few hours at this weight. The yarn is so soft! This is...
Great finds!
Ornaments...not just for Christmas anymore!
I like estate sales. I find cool things there sometimes. I went to one in my neighborhood yesterday and came away with some interesting things. Even vintage art supplies (I found boxes of vine charcoal at one sale at another time) Once in a while I find art work that I like enough to brin...
How nice to be able to keep warm so fashionably. The windchill here is in the minus double digits and the news is telling us to stay inside because of the snowstorm and wind, so I'm not bothering to be fashionable.
A Pom-Pom For A Knit Hat
Last year, I knit a series of wonderful hats for our family trip to Iceland. I finished one of them, Fuego, mid-trip, during a hike to see some wonderful waterfalls and rainbows. But, I didn't have a pom-pom maker with me, or any knowledge about how to make one, not being a pom-pom kind of gi...
I have a history of working in red/oranges or blue/greens; but I am finding myself drawn towards lavender mixes.
What's Your Favorite Color To Knit With?
It started innocuously enough, with a couple of pretty skeins that I purchased during a trip to a favorite local yarn store in Tuscaloosa. I'd never really thought about chartreuse. It looked like Shrek. And, my Mom never really liked me in green. But those first skeins jumped into my cart o...
With the temperatures here, fingerless gloves look like a wonderful project.
Works in Progress
The week I go back to work after the holidays is always a bad week for knitting (as much as it is good to be back with good friends and getting the job done). I manage to get in a bit of knitting when I wake up and a bit at night, so this week wasn't a total knitting loss. But progress was slo...
How wonderful to have a ballerina daughter! Love the color of your Olivia.
A Weekend's Worth Of Knitting
I seem to be having a glut of "welcome to the new year, everything is going crazy" overtime at work and insanity with kids, but despite that, I did find a bit of time to knit over the weekend. And especially, a big thanks to Downton Abbey, when everything in my house comes to a halt and I can k...
Your colors are lovely. On a non-knitting, but similar theme, I'm going to try to make at least one Christmas gift a month this year.
Some Dyeing
It's been a while since I shared any dyeing with you, so I thought that for today's post, I would share a quick picture of some of the recent dyeing I've done. I've been working with a sock yarn blend that is 80% superwash merino, 10% cashmere, and 10% nylon. It has a very tight twist and i...
The hat is adorable - the model, of course, is beautiful.
Another Knit Nevermind Hat. Subtitle: Why I Love The Plucky Knitter's Snug Yarn
I'm sure I sound like I have lost my marbles to anyone who is not passionate about knitting. But, I have a new favorite yarn, and I really don't care who knows about it. Snug. I love you Snug. I love you for your cashmere content and for your beautiful, smooth, round, bulkiness. And I love ...
Hats off to a wonderful gift idea. Maybe I should start thinking about expanding my sock and scarf knitting to include hats.
Marguerite's Knitted Hats
Hands down, the best Christmas presents we received this year were handknit hats from our dear friend Marguerite, a fun, intelligent woman, whose idea of a casual knit is a detailed Kaffe Fassett sweater. She is an inspiration. For Christmas Eve, she knit hats for everyone. Seriously, every...
It turned out beautifully.
Knitting Disaster Averted
My disasterous Cables and Lace Capelet is fixed. Just like that! I ripped off the oversized collar and reknit it on smaller needles and made it shorter. Suddenly, I have a beautiful capelet that makes me think of something Claire should be wearing on the Outlander TV show. The combination o...
Sorry Suirt has passed; they are family members and never lose their places in our hearts. I'm impressed with all your knitting projects. I am still working on a sock I started in early December.
New Year's Knitting
I wanted to catch you all up on the knitting I have planned for the month of January. I've joined The Plucky Knitter WIP Wrangling KAL, the goal being to finish Plucky projects that were started before the new year during the month of January. I started Olivia at the end of November, but prom...
I hope it turns out, because it will be so beautiful.
My Cables & Lace Capelet: Not A Success Story, At Least, Not Yet
Cables and Lace Capelet was a pattern I wanted to knit as soon as I saw it. It had this Outlander/Scottish Highlands vibe and looked like it would be great to throw on as I walked out the door for yoga or coffee with friends. The pattern photo looked great. (c) Berroco I walked into this one...
Beautiful colors to set the year off.
Yarn Things That Are Happening In My House Today
Although I need to clean up for New Year's Eve company and make myself presentable, there is a lot of knitting/fiber related activity in my house at the moment. It's a good summation of my knitting year, covering all of the bases. There is blocking. More on this one to come as soon as it's dry...
It looks lovely on you (you could look a little happier). Happy New Year - hope it's filled with lots of fun (knitting and otherwise).
Gadabout: Knitting That Is So Much Fun I Can't Wait To Do It Again
I liked knitting Gadabout a lot. I like knitting cables and these were unique. And somehow, although I was able to memorize that pattern on the first repeat -- something that almost never happens with me -- it never got boring. Gadabout is one of those patterns where you want to do "just one...
It looks elegant and richly colored.
Knitting The Cables And Lace Capelet
I finished up my Cashmere Gadabout last night. It's blocking and there will be photos later on this week. Once it was drying, I picked back up with my Cables and Lace Capelet, which has been languishing for weeks while Christmas knitting got finished. And I'm so glad that I did! This projec...
I think your photos look great; and, the models are certainly very good looking! Happy New Year. I look forward to seeing your projects.
What Did You Knit This Year?
[Click on the photo collage to see the larger version] This is my knitting year in review, or at least most of it. 2014 was a really good year for knitting in my house, likely because our Iceland trip spawned the need for lots of warm things early on and once my hat and cowl mojo got into ge...

Sorry about your mitts. I'm sure you can retain the puppy; but, may I say - puppy on table: adorable!
Bad Things Happen When I Go Away
I should have known it was going to be a bad trip, right? For openers, within minutes of my getting on the first plane, husband sends a series of photos that demonstrate that my months of careful training of the puppy are all going out the window. Immediately. He taunted me with photos all w...
Very nice! It looks like it will keep him warm in great style.
Today's Airplane Knitting
More work on the Irish Hiking Scarf I'm knitting my youngest for Christmas. I'm about halfway there.
