Why not, liksom?
This is what my husband would do. If he REALLY loved me. A blog reader found this on a website. Thanks, Lenor! Are you reading this, mr B? Remember that our second child had a hundred percent natural birth (ouch).
Yes, well... If you look at my blog post from October 2009 you´ll understand why my time in the Wollmeise shop was somewhat limited. Still, I did manage to buy some yarn for myself and a friend, so I didn´t come away empty handed. Afterwards I regretted not buying more, of course. I can´t blame this failure on anything – I was stone sober.
Let Me Count the Ways...
" How do I love thee? Let me count the ways." If I wanted to come across as pretentious I could just say that the quote is from a poem by Elizabeth Barrett Browning (1806-1861). But I have to confess only know that line because John Lennon used it in one of his songs on the album "Double Fant...
Up for Adoption
A big THANK YOU to everyone who left a comment about books on Norwegian knitting! Now, if any Norwegian who happen to read this would like to adopt a fairly well-behaved 44-year-old mother-of-two please drop me an email. I would love to be able to call your textile traditions my own. I don´t...
Tack Astrid! Då får man vackra drömmar. ;-)
Spring is in the Air
Today is Valborg in Sweden. Tonight we light bonfires and celebrate that spring is here! It´s been a long and rather cold and snowy winter. I´ve made heaps of hats and mittens. And I can´t seem to stop. But at least my new pair of mittens have a design suitable for spring. Flowers in full bloom...
Thank you, Mary! It warms my heart to hear that you like my blog.
As soon as the pattern is ready it will probably be available at The Loopy Ewe. But there are still no thumbs... I´ve been too lazy over the weekend.

Thanks, Geri!
I do have the Selbuvotter book, but I´ll check the others out.

Thank you, Chris! I thought I would be a good girl and knit the thumbs last night – but it turned out that I was too lazy ;-) I´m knitting on the matching hat and it´s so easy.

Thank you, Carolina! I remember that you were one of the first people that I friended on Ravelry, because of your beautiful nether garments. Johanne
Inspiration from Norway
Last weekend I happened to come across a Norweigan craft magazine called "Bunad" (which means folk costume I think). An article about embroidery caught my eye. The Norwegian folk costumes are simply spectacular and have inspired the Norwegian knitwear designer Solveig Hisdal (Poetry in Stitche...
Elise says thank you for all the birthday wishes!
The yarn in my scarf is a handdyed Swedish yarn called Färgkraft (Colour Power) and the pattern is the plain old Flower basket, that I really love.
Happy Birthday Darling Daughter!
Twelve years ago she was new to the world – and I was a new mother. Now she´s nearly as tall as me and still growing fast. This is Elise eleven years ago in a Strawberry hat that I had made her: And this is Elise today, in another knitted hat. And dyed red hair. Elise in Inga Snöflinga For...
No, it´s the sweater – I promise you. It hides all the lumps! But thank you.
It´s a Miracle!
I had a day off from work today and spent the morning cutting steeks and attaching a sleeve to that old fair isle sweater of mine. Yes, finally. I was holding my breath as I pulled it over my head for the first time. I hardly dared to look in the mirror. When I did I was shocked and stunned. Not...
Thank you for de-lurking, Rina! I love discovering who might be reading this blog. And what a nice comment it was, too!

Thank you, Tenna!
I think I´ll make the bottom the same as on another sweater that I have, with a picot edge and a facing. I´ll see if that will work.
And I´d quite like to have some pattern on the neckband, even if a ribbing always look nice. At first I was going to have the same border as on the bottom of the sweater, but I think it will be too big.
But I still need to knit a second sleeve, so I have some more time to think about it.

Oh, I´m so glad to see that someone likes the poor black hat. I´ve taken to wearing all the time so it wont feel sorry for itself. A mother loves all her children.
And the pattern is almost ready, just a few finishing touches needed!
Black or White?
Happy New Year! I celebrated by knitting listlessly on an old lace shawl, slumped in the sofa in front of the TV due to a bout of some inspecific kind of flu. But I´ve made a quick recovery and now feel ready to meet 2010 full on. Looking back at 2009 I think that making the Karin Kurbits patter...
Thank you, Tenna! That´s great to hear. I have to confess that I´ve been a bit lazy over the holidays. I also started knitting a few last minute Christmas gifts so now I´m a bit behind my schedule. It will be my New Year´s resolution to write up the pattern asap, though.

Hi Tenna!
I make a thumb gusset. I increase the mitten by approximately 15 stitches that make plenty of room for the thumb.
When the mitten is finished I remove the waste yarn, pick up the stitches for the thumb on the top and bottom, plus and extra on each side and knit the thumb. It´s real easy. But I still put off doing it for as long as possible because I´m so lazy!
Knitted Kurbits
I´m having a great time with my new pattern that I´ve named Karin the Kurbitsmitten, inspired by traditional folk art – kurbitsmålning – from Dalarna. This is what the colours look like in daylight. The second mitten is done, but none of them has thumbs. But I´m going to use the time until N...

Hi Anna!
Thank you so much – I´m still working on the patterns. The biggest problem is the lack of daylight to take good photographs in. But soon it will start getting lighter again.
Flower Power
How many mittens are too many? I hope I never find out. Those mittens with the traditional carnation pattern from Halland were finished fairly fast a few weeks ago, thumbs and all. I have a bad habit of postponing thumb knitting. Of course it makes it rather awkward if you want to actually mean ...

The number at the top is actually 08.
That is because this pattern was also a free pattern for the members of the Swedish knitting community "Sticka". Last week there was a "Mitten Event" about regional patterns and I decided to make a "Stockholm mitten".
08 is the prefix for telephone numbers in the Stockholm area and also a nickname for us who live there.
And because rats are so common in a big city like Stockholm I thought it would be suitable to make a mitten all call it "08-rat". In Swedish it even rhymes: "08-råtta".
Oh, rats!
We now have two new family members called Molly and Maggie. They are gerbils (ökenråttor). They will gnaw everything they can get their teeth on. I shudder when I think about what would happen if they were let loose in my yarn stash. They could totally trash the whole flat. But they are very cu...

Mönster på svenska
I´m working on translating my new patterns into Swedish. It feels a bit funny to have to do that. Maybe I should have written them in Swedish first. I am after all Swedish – even if I´d rather be Norwegian... Anyway. The patterns will be available at Nysta webshop and at Marias garn, as soon as ...
Yes, it looks marvellous! It´s a real honour to have someone knit a pattern
of mine in Wollmeise.
A match made in heaven – don´t you agree ;-)

I´m Going Loopy!
Last night there was a grand opening party here at the Born to knit-blog when the new patterns went up for sale at the web shop "The Loopy Ewe". There are three new hat patterns and four new mitten patterns. They are all in English and I still need to translate them into Swedish. A bit weird p...
