Interests: Joyce Schwarz is originally from Cleveland, Ohio, She earned her Bachelor of Science in Journalism (BSJ) from Ohio University, did MBA studies at the University of San Francisco and earned a Masters Degree in Professional Writing MPW from the University of Southern California in 1984. She is a major StarTrek fan. Schwarz loves world travel and has ventured to China (walked the Great Wall), Europe, South America, Central America, Mexico, Canada, Asia & lived and worked in Cleveland, New York, San Francisco, Honolulu and of course Los Angeles. She started her career as a magazine writer in New York City and went on to serve as Director of Marketing at the University of San Francisco and them moved on to serving as Manager of Special Events, for what is now Citibank and then moved on to serve as Account Supervisor at Foote Cone & Belding and then was recruited to Honolulu, Hawaii to serve as Vice President for the largest Ad/PR agency in the Pacific. She moved back to California to get her Masters Degree from USC and set up her own marketing & special events firm, Joyce Schwarz & Associates which was bought by PROMOT, a national promotions firm based in the MOTOWN building on Sunset Blvd in Hollywood. She then spun off her own independent film and entertainment public relatons and promotions firm Joyce Communications. In 1990 she became the West Coast Editor for what is now FILM & VIDEO magazine and wrote some of the earliest articles on new media including HOLLYWOOD 2000 and then went on to write books and organize and conduct the first workshops on new media ever done in Hollywood for the DGA, WGA, Women in Film & her client The California Film Commission. In 1995 she renamed her firm JCOM and began collaborating with ad agencies, PR firms, corporations and start-ups on business development, strategy, promotions and special events to launch new products and services in emerging entertainment and technology.
