Over the weekend we celebrated my mom's 91st birthday..........she just wanted to go to lunch to we did......I was going to have some of her friends over for a luncheon but she just wanted a small celebration so the 4 of us went to lunch and it was perfect. I guess at 91 you can do what you want and so we did exactly what she wanted...Happy Birthday Mom! Still going strong at 91.................if we all could still be going like this at 91........... Lately in the evenings when we are watching TV I am not in the mood to do much except mindless type things, if you know what I mean....making tags is so much fun and there are no rules , wrong or right way to make them....just gather up a punch of photos, ephemera, scrapbook papers, old papers, cut outs and anything you can think of to glue on a bunch of tags and start creating .....on these I even did a little stamping to make them look really old and a little ink around the edges to add that extra... I rarely do a selfie but is what we got....... A small class with a cancellation or two but we had a great time and the girls did an awesome job on their butterfly book ............ Can you believe I have Butterfly china........since we were having lunch I pulled these out to use....I also found some butterfly napkins in my napkin drawer...... We ended the afternoon with a piece of Coconut cake....... I am so excited to be teaching once again at one of my most favorite Paper Stores ever........The Paper Crown in Waco Texas. Friday Night July 30 from 4-7 this Family favorite recipe journal....something to store all of your favorite recipes ....Also a fun idea to bring a favorite recipe to share and we will have a way to copy them for everyone to take as they leave. About 15 years go or longer I use to work at a Local Coffee shop called The Java Joint.......besides coffee we would serve Italian Sodas........completely forgot about them until the other day I saw on someones blog or an advertisement and thought why not make I already had everything except the club soda......super super easy and so refreshing on a hot humid day like today.......fill the bottom of your glass with as much syrup as you like ( any flavor of your choice, raspberry, cherry, strawberry skys the limit but I like plain old vanilla) then add the ice... The kids sent this beautiful card to me for my is really more than just a card, a piece of beautiful art. This artist is from Logan Utah and has her quilts up at many botanical gardens and galleries all over. She paints on silk and then free motion stitches on her machine........absolutely beautiful! While at Dallas Gift Market last week in the vintage cash and carry I did a little damage in the booth that always has these wonderful charms that have been distressed to look old!!!! I have been away for a few days to Dallas for Gift Market......had a great time and did some way over due shopping and paid for it when I got legs and body are so out of shape that I hurt from head to toe.....and my partner in crime works out all the time and is in great shape and she was just as sore as I was....oh well we had birthday was yesterday so my mom and sister had us over today for lunch........can you see the small photos below...they are of me when I was little... The placemats I used in their kits I decided it would be fun to include a small version on their name tags........kinda quirky but added a little whimsey ........ Raspberries has to be my most favorite fruit but Peaches are the next........oh I love these things and can't get enough of them in the summer......Last week some friends of ours went to Georgia to visit relatives and brought us back a box of Georgia Peaches.......I wish you could smell them .......I have given away half of them but this is what I had left yesterday so I decided to make a small cobbler...... ...... Well much to my surprise I opened this sweet box today that came in the mail and look what was inside.........these gorgeous sweet velvet mushrooms from the talented artist Julie Collings.......oh my word, I wish you could see them in real life because this photo doesn't quite show how beautiful and delicate they really are......what a sweet gift from one talented artist. For those of you attended Terri's retreat last weekend here is the way I construct the book cover for a journal and the one we used in class...sorry it's taken so long! You can get these book boards from Amazon and I usually get the 9x12. It makes the perfect size journal but I have used the 8x10 and its just a week bit small and also works great! Look at these fun new fabrics I found while in Washington last all the colors and designs.....most of them are the new Tula Pink from her Curiouser and Curiouser line! I am so excited for the All Day Red White and Blue class this coming friday........we will be making this house out of old pieces of quilts, fabric, ribbon, lace, buttons, even a little shrink, and any add ons we can find to complete this patriotic house........this will hopefully be a relaxing day of slow stitching and creating with great friends around the table talking , eating and enjoying some time has been way to long since I have had an all day class and I am so ready and I hope the girls are too..... .I have always... Thank You doesn't seem enough or the right wordage but THANK YOU Terri from the bottom of my heart....... for someone like me who doesn't do a lot of traveling and teaching outside my little world it was so much fun and more than I had expected....Terri is the hostess of all time........everything went as smooth as can be. On the last day of retreat Terri's class was this first started out with the main piece and pounded the copper to the shape you wanted.......add whatever saying etc. you chose you then soldered it on and you had the main piece of the starting of your bracelet........I will have to confess that I did do the main piece but Terri was sweet finish the bracelet and wrap and finish the beads for me.......I am not a very good wire wrapper so I was thrilled she did it for me.....that is why it looks so good! here are a... Day two Terri taught this sweet book ........... first you start out with just a piece of copper and you turn it into a soldering piece of art ...........she also taught us how to turn a photo into an old looking say the least it was so much fun and very addicting.........they are so tiny and fun because you can tuck them inside the book with all of the little pockets and tuck spots.......this is my cover to my little book and the back cover, here are a few pages that I kinda did a little in class but... I am so thankful for someone like Terri Brush.......she is one of the sweetest, kindest, genuine, talented, generous people I know..........and incredible hostess.........I met Terri of course at the Paper Crown Oklahoma City years ago but have known who she is.........not knowing that one day she would invite me to come and teach a class at one of her Retreats........REALLY! I felt so honored that she contacted me this winter to see if I would be interested in teaching a class at the end of May at her first Retreat since last years pandemic ............I am so glad I accepted... Well I am headed out tomorrow for Seattle for one of Terri Brush's retreats to teach and enjoy being with her and taking in all of the beauty of her studio and surroundings.......a first for me!
