Oh Cindy <3 <3 <3 I have been taking a lengthy break from blogs, both writing and reading, and so I missed the news about Peri. I am so sad, but of course it was the only thing that could have been done. I heard on Saturday about a friend's lab going through the same thing a couple of weeks ago. I'm glad you and Gilly are OK, and I hope 2016 brings you both lots of love, fun and good health xxxxxxxxxxx Judy
End It Like Beckham
I am not totally au fait with the whole soccer area, but this year has definitely thrown me a curve. Mixing the baseball and soccer metaphors there, but it hasn't been a bad year, just tricky sometimes. In good news for me, my knee and its muscles seem to be healing at last: slowly albeit. It s...
Poor Gilly, glad she is on the mend! Sirius has had to have more Cartrophin for her arthritis - it seems to have kicked in now and she is pretending that 14 1/2 year olds are frisky puppies :) Just spent last weekend in Hobart - I think you are Launceston? Otherwise would have told you. Just about had enough time to catch up with two lots of Hobart based friends, visit Salamanca Market and Mona, and rejoice in the fact that although it was cold, it wasn't hideously windy as it has been in Melbourne for WEEKS!!!!!
They Found A Brave
What a Brave Girl Lorelai Gilmore was last week, and Peri too. Lorelai Gilmore had a terribly sore foot, and on our first visit to the vet Dr Marion thought she had been bitten by an ant or a wasp. But the next morning her paw felt so sore she had to hop about on three legs. We went straight t...
Yum! But needs gravy! How exciting about the pup, really looking forward to further news on that front :)
Surprise!! Friday Food: Bacon Wrapped Meatloaf With Roast Vegetables
Today I really needed to use up the fresh pork mince I'd bought. So a meatloaf seemed the easiest thing for me to make. I'm still poorly, but there you go. I was cheered up today by a phone call from Lorelai Gilmore's breeder to say that he might have a new puppy for us before the end of the ye...
I've had a cold for three weeks and I'm about to start my second lot of antibiotics in another attempt to flush it out of the sinuses where it is squatting, sneering at any attempts at eviction. Hope you feel better soon! XX
May The Seventh, No, The Eighth Be With You
Because I was thinking I might post on Monday and then May The Fourth Be With You would have made perfect sense: Star Wars Day- May the Force Be With You. Although saying that just reminds me of going to mass and doing all the proper responses in the liturgy. You know you really should blog when...
Lovely dress :) I have two dresses in the middle of construction, one finished but not blogged, and three or four washed and dryed fabric lengths waiting to be cut out.
'Old It, SisBoom, Wallop, What A Picture!
I especially put on my new dress this evening to post to my blog!! Yesterday I had a bug and was not very well. Luckily Peri and Gilly are excellent nurses. Today I felt better, but we still slept till 3pm. I have had my usual invalid food of Vegemite on toast and cups of tea, supplemented with ...
Too hot for anything in Melbourne today. Which means that, fortunately having aircon, I made pasta carbonara because egg and bacon always works. Yours sounds healithier! Hope you and puppies kept coolish today. I worship coolness :)
Friday Food: Marinated Cauliflower And Sprout Salad
In deference to tomorrow's 32*C forecast, I decided to make something that didn't require any heat whatsoever. The weather has been so wonderful for us, in the low 20s or even teens. All December. So, this salad is from the weird recipes in the Super Food Ideas magazine for January/February 201...
Lots of love to you and the labs from me and Sirius and the DH and DD who love to hear about you all. Hope 2015 is fantasical for all of you
She Loves You Yeah, Year, Year!!
Merry Christmas!!! We had a lovely Christmas lead up and Christmas Day. I made a dozen bags and gave them as gifts to many and various people. The bag is my Go To pattern right now. Peri and Gilly received so many presents but I think they will like, best of all, their Sound of Music prese...
I'm EXACTLY the same about meteor showers!!! And every time I read Testament of Youth I hold my breath telling myself that this time, Roland will come back from the war.
Pop, Pop, UnPopular Music
What lovely weather here: warmish most days, but it has been cool and rainy this evening and Peri and Gilly have been outside playing in the rain. In the mornings it can be cold, and they love a rainy and cold walk the best. On Saturday Rafa's Dad and brother and sister (human) came for a walk...
I love it all!! The fabric and the caravan and the fox on the run! Good luck with the flyscreen, I;ve never done anything like that but I;m sure you will make it a thing that is both useful and beautiful :)
Our Neck-lace Of The Woods
Things have been quiet in our neck of the woods. Once again, I tried to fit too many things into my days and I was also worried about having a terrible dental emergency. I couldn't see the dentist and so in the end, as the Long Weekend was a day away, I went to see my GP. Whereupon she pronounce...
SO DECADENT!!!!!!!!
Friday Food: Margate Biscuits
I'm not sure about the rest of The World, but here in Australia we have a biscuit called Kingston. As it happens, there is a city in the south of the State called Kingston. And if you are going to devise a recipe for your own Kingston biscuit, then what better name than Margate, the next town a...
I love lemon drizzle cake, though the version I make just uses lots of syrup and no icing. Sorry you've been so poorly, I am glad you are on the mend now. Hope you've had plenty of lab approved health care :)
Friday Food: Lemon Drizzle Cake
Or Nigella's Lemon Syrup Cake. Or myriad other names. When I am poorly, I can only wear the same combination of clothes when I go out. I wash them, and wear them the next time. I just can't think about a new combination to wear. There is something very comforting (and maybe weird) about doing t...
I love Totoro, and your bags are all great!
Tails Of The Unexpected
Well, that was an unexpected absence. I don't know what happened. I do actually. I had a big rest after the school holidays, and then it wasn't The Last Of The Winter Whine and I had a week in bed with the cold/virus (which I still have) and then we had a terrible storm and we had no phone for n...
There's been really horrid viruses around this winter - I've had several in a row over the last two months or so. Sirius can get very protective of treats too, worrying that someone might spirit them away!
Last Of The Winter Whine???
Bah humbug, my cold worsened and we needed a day in bed to cope with the headache. I knew I wasn't well when I didn't feel like eating. It was Sunday, so no-one missed out on a walk. This morning The Labradors woke me up at 7-44am and bounced about enthusiastically. Although I had the sneezes, I...
Looks so good! Sadly Graham cannot eat cream :( I love it. But I have other good standby pantry/fridge recipes.
Friday Food: Lemon Garlic Cream Sauce
Well, it is amazing what you can whip up when you look in the fridge and you haven't been shopping. There were frozen meals I'd cooked earlier, but I felt like something different. There are hundreds of creamy lemon and garlic pasta sauces, so I kind of went with what I had really. It is not as...
I have considered the Brain Hat as it is amusing but I'm not sure I could make that much Icord without strangling myself with it.
Lovely waggly labs! We've been away for two weeks and Sirius has been staying with her lab friends Jasmine and Bosco. She had a lovely time but she is SO TIRED that she has done little but sleep since we picked her upon Tuesday!
Christmas In Ju-Why???
Why is is Christmas in July?? Surely it should be Christmas in June, six months after Christmas in December?? I was pondering this today because we celebrated CIJ at Leukaemia Support Group. My mum and her friends had Christmas a little while ago too. I baked Nigella's Sticky Gingerbread Cake an...
I am very sad about Rik :( And also Eric Hill (creator of Spot) died, so I am also sad about that. But no-one can be sad for ever with happy dogs around!
It's A Long Long Way From Mayall To December.
Well, there was an outing/commitment splurge last week, and I ended up having a day in bed on Friday. It did the trick too. It is ironic that when the weather cools and I feel the happiest and healthiest, I end up doing too many things and have to rest up. Still, Peri and Lorelai Gilmore are tra...
This looks amazing and I must make it! Sorry I have been absent from the bloggy scene for so long! Missed you!
Friday Food: Raspberry Chocolate Brownie
On e bowl, or saucepan: that's all you need. Best recipe ever!! I've made this a few times now, very successfully, and I have promised this brownie to Wee Jock and Bessie's Mum and Dad. I made a few changes, as per usual. I didn't sprinkle extra chocolate and raspberries over the top of the unco...
Mm, I love iced tea, but not sweetened. I just make it as normal black tea, chill and serve with lemon slices and iceblocks. No need to lemonade or anything else. The mint sounds like an excellent addition!
Friday Food: Cheat's Iced Tea
It is as hot as Hades, too hot to cook. Today I boiled the kettle and made some Cheat's Iced Tea. Andrea put the idea into my head. We always seem to meet in the supermarket and have the nicest of chats!! With this recipe, instead of making a syrup, you partially freeze lemonade and use that. Ta...
Dear Cindy, I hope you and the labs had a lovely Christmas <3 Love from Judy
Friday Food: Snowballs or Boules De Neige
If you want a gluten and dairy free recipe, then this is the one for you!! It can be egg free as well if you use one of the vegan egg substitutes. They are definitely not nut free though. I didn't take a photo of the snowballs at the end and in searching for one I found that Margaret Fulton has ...
I definitely agree about the picture with the labs together inspecting the ants! And I love the Christmas dog material too.
I watched Dr Who on the telly and even that way it was excellent.
Around He Whirled In Eighty Days
AKA Gonski in Sixty Seconds. Education funding is up in the air again. Despite endorsing the Gonski Report recommendations, Minister Pyne (and the Liberal Coalition Government) has reneged on the deals the States signed with The Commonwealth before the election. Why is it that politicians feel t...
DROOL!!!! Have fun at the BBQ :)
Friday Food: Fruit Cake Chocolate Truffles
There are lots of recipes for making truffles with fruit cake. This is one of the very easiest. I did find it in the Donna Hay Dec/Jan 2013 Issue, just as I hoped. No copha, no fuss at all really. The rum can be replaced with alcohol of your choice (cherry brandy) , or some fruit juice, even tea...
Must give these a go, I LOVE cheesy things!!
Friday Food: Parmesan Shortbread
It's about forty days till Christmas and I have been making baking plans in my mind. Somewhere in a magazine, I can't find where, I saw some lovely cheesy biscuits cut into star shapes. I might just add some savoury biscuits to my gifts this year. Well, I needed to have a trial run and a taste t...
Oh. Gosh. Yum. Drool. Trails off into speechless dribbling...
Friday Food: Sour Cherry Port Brownie
Oh, I almost forgot Friday Food, even though I made the brownie on Sunday. We were off to bed when I suddenly remembered. This recipe is from the Christmas 2013 Family Circle. The only thing I needed to buy was a jar of Morello cherries. The best thing was that I didn't use the whole jar and so ...
Sirius was copiously sick in the car this morning, it must be that time of the year :( She seems fine now, just grumpy that I have not fed her this evening.
Nice hat. I thought it was a salad at first :) I wear a hat in the summer and have collected a squillion of them, ahave also recently bought a pattern and cute fabric to start making my own. I have very fair skin and I am not getting any younger!
I have watched all of RtoR and although I like the concept I don;t really get the winners, and haven't bought any of them. I don't like ribs, actually, and would prefer to make my own sauce. But I admire the point of the programme.
We haven't had much hot weather in Melbourne at all yet, thank goodness, but I am going to Sydney for three days and it is forecast to be hot and humid, yucky. May have to expose lily white legs :)
Sweet Darling, I Can Leave My Hat On. I Can Leave My Hat On, Baby. I Can Leave My Hat On. Ooh, I Can Leave My Hat On.
And we would all rather I leave my hat and other garments on, rather than doing as Joe Cocker's lyrics suggest. Then the world can count itself lucky it doesn't have to poke its eyes out with a spoon. I don't have a hat. I must avoid the Sun between 11am and 3pm as it has contraindications with ...
YUM!! Sadly the rest of my family will only eat chicken breast, the spoilt so-and-sos, though I am sure I could adapt this to suit them.
Friday Food: Paper Bag Chicken
I'm not sure how True Blue this recipe is, but the Taste.com.au magazine assures me it is dinky-di. I remember a few years ago there were Shaker (Fries) Chips and one of the doughnut chains was advertising shaker flavours recently. It would be fun if everyone had their own home made shaker bag f...
