Tiny hoard is my new favorite phrase (a much better way to describe my decor). Yes, made me smile too.
Tiny Hoard #1
These last 6 months, even though I haven't had opportunities to junk as frequently as I have in the past, it doesn't mean that I'm hoard-free. In fact, I have loads of what I call "tiny hoards" all over my home. Little trays and cigar boxes house my hoard, simply to make me happy. I love th...
I totally understand the "sort through later"...am finally getting out from under that pile. My sisters and I are lucky that we already have a buyer for my mom's house; seeing that light at the end of the tunnel.
relentless winnowing
Relentless winnowing. It's a term one of my oldest blog friends used recently and it put words to the state that I've been in over the last several years. I've moved my mother-in-law to our house (severe winnowing), moved my mom to her new house (more winnowing), and am now clearing out my m...
Thank you Natalie...slowly but surely getting to settled in to the new normal
an affair to remember
If life can be a metaphor, then the year my sisters and I have been through is like a hurricane; a hurricane with only the smallest of calm. We all helped our mom move from her home and into the cutest house ever. It was perfect and cheerful in every way. But it was so, so very brief. The ...
Thank you from the bottom of my heart Jen. Such a hard time but easier with family and friends like you.

Thanks Randy. I hope to see you soon for happier reasons (or go to KC with Mary an run into you?)

Win-win!
Interior monologue
While returning from taking my daughter back to college after Thanksgiving break: Me: If you went this way instead of that way, you could stop at the little junk shop. Myself: We're not doing that this year. We're paring down our collection and reevaluating, remember? Me: I know. But it's ri...
Thanks Natalie. I don't normally weigh in on that kind of stuff but, in this case, I know what I'm talking about and wanted to share.
this crazy north county life
We didn't mindfully move to an integrated neighborhood. We just moved to St. Louis (back home for me) from Detroit and wanted to live in neighborhood like Royal Oak. But now, 23 years, 2 houses only miles apart, and 3 kids later, I wouldn't live anywhere else. We live in one of the many ti...
Thanks Jen. He was here almost a week so it was excellent coverage. Life is slowly getting back to normal here. Normal crazy.

In the weeks before my dad died, he talked several times about how everyone was waiting for him in the yard. It is no surprise to any of us that my dad's version of heaven was a beautiful green lawn. I feel incredibly thankful that my mom, my three sisters, and I were with my dad on ...
Hi Nicki, I just returned from dropping my daughter at Rosati-Kain Photography camp. She plans to start school there next year and, after taking lots of photos around the school, she told me that she "really, really likes the Central West End"...always a city girl :-)
Rosati-Kain breaks ground on new addition
Many of my posts over the past six months have concerned announcements of new construction projects in the neighborhood. Yesterday at Rosati-Kain High School there was a ground-breaking ceremony for a 12,000 s.f. 3-story addition that is being constructed at 216 N. Newstead Avenue. The partial...

Oh man Colleen...so sorry to hear about your dad. Either suddenly or over a long time, it is really hard to lose your dad. I think all Irish families share the same traits; I am also thankful the Sisters that cared for my dad did not mind our rather casual and persistent cussing ;-)
Love to your family Colleen.

I LOVE my necklaces Julie!
etsy jewelry
I think shopping for jewelry on etsy is like a needle in a haystack (I just checked...there are over 2 million listings for "necklace"). Technically, I can make my own jewelry. Buy chain, attach pendant, done. But I really can't do it nearly as well as someone that meticulously crafts jew...
Good memory; like an Antro savant ;-)
butter dish
I realized a few days ago that I had not changed my blog design since 2009. One cute picture of a favorite dish inspired me to make a few small changes. A new banner and bigger space for pictures; easier to do than I remember.
Downton and a whole lot of Breaking Bad ;-)
plank wall and other sources
A plank wall. Trendy yes, but also a good cover for an old plaster wall. I kind of used this tutorial. Except I used masonite (the guy at Home Depot cut all of the boards for me for free; for real). And lots of liquid nails. And lots of perseverance. It is not perfect but it gives the ...
I agree about them being timeless...can take what I learned and try it again. Wish Emma a Happy Birthday from her friends in St. Louis!

feats of strength and stupidity; my galvanized pipe table
The purpose of this post is not really a DIY for making a galvanized pipe table (although it is based very loosely on these excellent plans). Its purpose is to serve as a warning for the things you may not know and how to avoid the same mistakes I made. As an overview, let me just say ...
Just found her post...can totally relate! Thanks for the new blog Sarah!

I posted my own DIY experience with galvanized pipe this week and my blog friend Sarah told me I should check out your post...very similar experience to mine! I know exactly what you mean about threading one end as the other is un-threading (I shudder at the memory). Just in case you ever try it again, you need another piece called a "union" to merge those pieces (luckily it has much less embarrassing name).
The Not As Easy As It Looks shelf
Everyone has their own reasons for choosing to DIY rather than buy. For some it is for the satisfaction that comes from doing the work, others are motivated by money, or lack there of, and some just feel like a challenge. Mitch and I fall at different places along the spectrum depending upo...
Hey Natalie! We all need to have more "big girl" playdates!
skirts
I put up a plank wall in our basement this summer (using masonite; long story) and had a stack of scraps at the end of it all. I'm a life-long leftover saver ("Oh, I can use this for something") and sometimes use what I save. The boards I saved are about 6x15 inches; the perfect size for s...

undershare
We all know about overshare on the internet but there's also undershare (yes?). There is no doubt that I've undershared this year. I've got lots to share creatively but...it somehow feels like I'm repeating myself (been there, sewed that). I've gotten really good at the instant share; from ...
