Seriously, wow. That's very impressive, E!
How To Make an Astrid Costume
Disclaimer: this tutorial will be neither slick nor polished, but as I am eternally grateful to the handful of people who shared their Astrid costume tips/photos online, I wanted to add mine too in case someone out there wants to try their hand at making this costume. Who knows, Astrid might m...
And once again, I wish I were the fourth Willis sister.
I hope your birthday was wonderful!
Laughing in My Dreams
So. It is a well-documented fact that the Willis Sisters are widely-known for our unique brand of crazy quirks when it comes to all sorts of things—our consumer habits, startle reflex, general sense of humor....We are, of course, OK with the strange looks and slightly puzzled reactions we often ...
I'm good with the cheese curd, but I'll keep dipping my fries in Zips tartar sauce. I don't even like gravy on mashed potatoes!
Clean as a whistle.
So after binging for three weeks straight, I decided to hoist my every growing ass back up on the bandwagon. I always feel like I need a jump start and that jump start usually is the Wild Rose Detox. I want to be clear. I don't think my liver is all that dirty and am skeptical (because that's ...
Cheryl, this post reminds me once again why I am so glad you're back to blogging. :)
What do YOU do?
When you tell your boys that the 37 days of procrastinating sorting the recycling is up and to get out to the garage to get it done. And you hear howling. All the way through the heavy garage door, into the mudroom, across the living room and into your office. Do you: a) ignore it (I tried this ...
Firstly, you are the Etsy Treasury queen. So cool!
Secondly, I googled Wild Rose Detox, thinking perhaps this is something I would like to do. (You had me at down 4 lbs. and sugar craving subsided.) But I found this included in a list of acceptable snacks: vegetable salad with apple sauce and sprinkled with cinnamon and garlic powder.
Wha? Is this a Canadian delicacy?
Clean as a whistle.

She's adorable! I'm so glad you were able to use that sign.
(I did want to mention that the photo isn't showing up on your blog, though. I could only view it on Flickr.)
Back to Back-to-School Pages
It's that time of year again! Moms in many places of the world are - or will soon be - taking various photos of their kiddos on the first day of school: wearing new clothes, sporting a new backpack, riding a new bus, sitting in a new classroom, meeting a new teacher, greeting new (and old) fri...

Thank you so much for pointing that out--I guess I linked to my personal file (which requires login) instead of the shared version! All fixed now. :)
Summer Afternoon
As August approaches, I tend to panic at the thought that summer is almost over. (And I can't even imagine what it's like for those of you whose kiddos go back to school in the next week or two!) The feeling is especially acute this year as the summer weather in our area was slow to arrive. Bu...

Everything is looking beautiful. I love that new oilcloth!
I can't wait to get my hands on Sandi's new line! Her fabric is the biggest stack in my collection, and I was so thrilled to read this week that some colors of Henna Garden are being reprinted and new colors added. It's one of my very favorites. :)
Recovered
When we moved into our new home, I took some of our furniture for World Headquarters. Our old kitchen table is now my sewing table, recovered with a sweet new oilcloth. This was the table before: And I did love that oilcloth so much, but was ready for a change. I'm funny that way... looking ...
You had me at those white floors. And I may be a teensy bit jealous. :)
Decorating on the cheap (a work in progress)
Hello dear summer readers! I am back, wading through the boxes, cleaning supplies, and packing materials to bring you a (hopefully) fun day of decorating on the cheap. When I last left you, all of my possessions were sitting on a truck while we were waiting to close on our house. Five very l...
I didn't realize they started charging for the movies, but I can see how it would help with the crowds. I gave up on the movies a few years ago, because there would be busloads of day cares in line. That's probably not the case now!
What is it with kids deeming it too hot to play outside? My boys start saying it when it gets over 70. I have banned complaining about the sunshine! ;)
Summer Fun Day
Is there anything better after a busy day at the park than curling up in bed with a good book? Tuesday we spent all day doing laundry and getting our oldest ready for her international excursion. I explained to the kids, "Today is a boring day, but tomorrow will be a fun day." And so it was. ...
We haven't quite turned this corner. But I will return and reread when I need this perspective of the benefits of my babies getting older. (It may be weekly. ;)
A New Era
Before things get really crazy around here (ha! ha!) we're trying to pack in a few summer adventures with all five of us present; today's adventure: the Denver Zoo. We love going to the zoo, and have been regulars at zoos in Colorado Springs, Oakland, and Washington, D.C. in the last eight yea...

Oh, I am soooo impressed with your prep. Our pick up was at 8:00 at night last time, and I just didn't have the energy to do more than trim the meat and cut it into pieces before freezing. I would love to pull a marinated package out for dinner!
The valley pick-up is a book store that's set way back from Sprague with a really dark parking lot. My friend's husband was joking, "Are you sure this is chicken you're picking up...?" :)
Roller Skating Chickens?
It seems a little hinky to order meat off the internet and pick it up in the parking lot of a roller skating rink, but that exactly how Zaycon Foods works. After reading through their website though, I decided it was worth a try. My first order they were offering 40 lbs of fresh boneless, skinle...
Oh, yum! I love anything with "white chocolate" in the title. :) I'll definitely be trying this one.
Delicious Birthdays
Sunday was Kendell's birthday and today was Kaleb's, so we celebrated both on Sunday with the traditional Grandmas Party. I made two desserts, since Kendell doesn't love cake and Kaleb doesn't love grown-up desserts. Everyone (except my inner thighs) was happy! Last year, on Kaleb's fifth birthd...

An Excellent Candidate for the Blog of Unnecessary Quotation Marks
In the midst of the month of 8 bazillion audiology and ENT appointments (I think Maddie and Bridget compete to see who can get more) Gracie felt left out and ended up with a whopping, near ear-drum-rupturing ear infection. We laughed about the unnecessary quotation marks, but in retrospect I t...
I made this last night, and my kids and I had it for breakfast. (It has fruit, after all. ;) So delicious! Thank you for sharing.
Strawberry Rhubarb Upside Down Cake
One of my favorite spring flavor combinations is strawberry and rhubarb and every year, I love experimenting with recipes that include them. My Strawberry Cake is sweet and aromatic while the Rhubarb Topping is a bit tart, really buttery, and delicious. Desserts really don't get any homier than ...
The only place to roller skate in Grangeville was the National Guard Armory, every Friday night. Apparently we were a sheltered bunch.
I always feel ill-equipped to comment on your musical preferences, so I will continue to refrain. (Pun intended.) :)

I'm inspired to sew when I see all the many ways that fabric can be used. It's amazing to me! I would love to win this book.
Why I'm always....Inspired to Sew!
I'm beyond excited to be stop number four on Bari J.'s blog tour for her new book, Inspired to Sew published by Stash Books! I was so excited when Bari asked me to partcipate, because she's an artist that I have long admired and I totally want to be like her when I grow up! ^_^ For the tour,...
Oh, I absolutely love the eclectic look of that handbag. Would love to win the book!
Inspired to Sew? You will be!
When I stopped to consider what makes me Inspired to Sew it really came down to one thing....creative people. Creative people inspire me to sew and the funny thing is it doesn't even need to be sewing people, just creative people. It just so happens that sewing is my outlet when I'm inspired. ...
Oh, I love this and cannot wait for the pdf. For I, too, fell prey to a package of Office Depot badge holders. But that was a few years ago, and they have been so lonely. Full of potential, but utterly lonely. ;)
2011 Good/Better/Best Mini-Album
Today's project to get you thinking about your own 52 Projects challenge (my 36th if you're counting along!) stems from my irritation about my bad memory. I've always wanted to create a "best of" awards-style mini-album at the end of the year—you know, the award for best picture seen by the Di...
What a great giveaway! I am a newsletter subscriber.
This year I want to start sewing clothes for my 4 y.o. daughter. I'll probably begin with something like a pillowcase dress or top.

Karen, I have loved your posts so much. I am going to go back and reread another time or two to review and decide on a few things. Thank you so much for such a comprehensive and inspiring week!
Resolutions: Personal Projects
I hope some of yesterday's crafty projects inspired you and gave you some ideas to try out for 2011. Thank you so much for all your comments and links to other projects. Today, I want to focus on projects that are not arts and crafts focused. Some of these are personal improvement projects ...
