Neytiri throws Jake's torch in the water after saving him from the viperwolves because she might think the fire would attract them back. Another reason could be because the Na'vi and all of Pandora is filled with life forms that contain their own bioluminescence features that produce a lot of light during the night. They probably rely on bioluminescence versus carrying fire all around. In fact this could be one of the earliest lessons she teaches him before being given the task of helping Jake learn more about the Na'vi culture. Continue reading
