While I like the idea of supporting women going into engineering by giving tuition support, I want to point out that that is NOT what Teach for America does. TFA gives recruits only five weeks of training before they are placed (alone)in classrooms with high-needs children, sometimes even special education. In the past, novices were only placed in areas with teacher shortages, but today a vast majority of TFAers are filling positions which qualified, certified teachers would fill if TFA were not there. TFA simply exacerbates the inequalities in the system by giving low-income children of color the least prepared, uncertified teachers. Unless Engineers for America intends to give recruits only five weeks training before sending them off to build bridges, I do not think they should compare themselves to TFA.
