Nancy, this was a delicious read. I agree with the distinction you draw between jealousy and envy. I am someone who has often been the recipient of beautiful flowers when it has been very clear that the message conveyed was intended for another audience.

Once again, I don't disagree. However, I must point out that frequently the "community" is comprised of bloggers who are commenting solely as a strategy to drive traffic to their own blogs. Trying hard to have something to say. Trying hard to post their comments early in the stream on popular blogs. LOL! Of course, that in common pursuit of traffic and links by commenting bloggers qualifies as community of a sort. @scottpdailey wrote an interesting guest post for @LizStrauss suggesting that blog commenting has become "the new commute." Simply brilliant! John, I don't mean to sound so negative--truly I don't. But it seems that we are always extolling the fabulous fact that now, thanks to Web 2.0, everyone can be heard. But it is closer to the truth that in a world where theoretically everyone can be heard, and seeks to be heard, it is damn hard to be heard.

John, I am impressed with your thoughtful analysis and mostly agree with what you have written here. However, the thing I find troublesome, is that on some level, even white hat content farms are still all about gaming the system.
