Amen. Sometimes it seems like some people think that the internet is just a giant coupon distribution mechanism. So tired of the word "deal". (This is really commenting more on retail marketing). Another thing to remember is that discounting might bring you the wrong type of customer - i.e. the customer who is only looking for a "deal" and may have a much smaller net lifetime value.
I always thought MIT's Project Oxygen had some interesting ideas. The context awareness seems like it will come from integrating a network aware physical world with the flow of social information on the web. As more and more spaces, locations and physical objects become network aware (the concert hall, each seat at the concert hall, etc.) and integrated with social information online the amount of decision-making that can be automated based on context is staggering. BTW - the Rumsfeld poetry is hilarious.
